The Fat Lamb Country Inn and Nature Reserve, hotel in Outhgill

Situated between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, The Fat Lamb Country Inn and Nature Reserve boasts a fine dining restaurant.

It definitely had its country feel to it, but also like we had stopped off at an American fuel station/nick-nack pub. Adored all of the pieces that they've gotten together all throughout the years to make it feel comfortable. And it definitely was indeed. We took our dog and they were very friendly with us all. It definitely had a homely feeling. The room was very clean and comfortable and had everything you needed. Thank you all again and for also helping me in the morning with the ice and making sure I was okay. (Fell in the shower). The staff were lovely and very efficient. The food was also great, although it could have done with a bit more variety on the menu as some folks can be picky and wasn't too sure on the menu. Other than that. Fab!

The Stables has good sized rooms with comfortable furniture and bed, a well equipped kitchen and shower room, a high pressure shower and heated towel rail. It is cosy and warm, very clean with plenty of local information, maps, books videos and games. The owners have thought and planned carefully to provide a lovely holiday retreat. The only note of warning needed is to expect the power shower to be noisy, but you are warned about that in the information pack too.

This is a remote location that requires a car for access but is a beautiful area and the accommodation was lovely. Defiantly recommend a stay here. The Black Bull in Nateby has brilliant food but need to book even on a Thursday night in late September.

Kirkby Stephen just 4 miles down the road with some lovely shops and Hawes in opposite direction 20 mins drive. Nice walks, lots to see and an ruined castle on the doorstep. Lots of places to eat and take your dog into, cafes and fish shops and pubs, yummy. The dog loved all the attention from everyone and we saw a red squirrel on the tree outside of the door. We loved the whole area, quiet, relaxing but if you wanted more it was only a short drive or walk away.

    A very peaceful setting.

A very peaceful setting. Easy to get to and excellent instructions from the host for finding it. We did not eat out, the co-op in Kirkby Stephen is 5 miles away and very well stocked. The farm shop at Tebay services is superb for local meat etc. Good area for walking. Nice coffee shops in Kirkby Stephen for tea and cake!
