quiet country location, beautiful view of field and sheep from bedroom window. The host was excellent. The owner texted me, prior to my arrival warning me of a difficulty with the access to the farm and advising of a different route. At breakfast the owner paid particular attention to my very necessary dietary needs and went way above my expectations .
Nestled within 4 acres of rolling countryside, originating in the 17th century the thatched AA 5-star Gold Fernside Bed and Breakfast has easy access to Exmoor.

The whole stay was an amazing experience. The countryside views to the bedroom and ensuite. Could sit in the garden was hours admiring the lands for miles. Not to mention the beautiful horses, sheep, peacocks and geese that were within touching distance. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much for them. The breakfast was delicious, such a great selection. Put a smile on my face when I walked into the bedroom to find Lindt Chocolates on each side of the bed tables. The beds were so comfortable and the ensuite was nice, clean and tidy too as well as the bedroom. The tea and coffee station in the bedroom had a great variety of drinks to make and even come with biscuits! Honestly, the best B&B I've ever stayed in. I definitely would recommend and stay at again on my next trip to Devon.
We've known The Red Lion for many years as we have four...
We've known The Red Lion for many years as we have four family members buried in the churchyard in Oakford and visit the village whenever we are down from London to pay our respects. This was the first time we'd actually stayed overnight though, and it didn't disappoint. The refurbishment some years ago has made this a special place to visit - very picturesque, cosy bar and breakfast room downstairs and luxuriously appointed en-suite bedrooms upstairs. The comfiest bed with gorgeous bedding and plush towels. Good sized television and fresh milk for our tea/coffee tray in the room. Thoughtful touch with earplugs for the rooks, but wasn't a problem for us. Lovely breakfast and our dog made to feel very welcome. Wish we had had longer but will definitely be back! Remote location obviously not an issue for us as we know the area well, and certainly adds to the charm of a stay in Oakford.

Liked the quiet location and the friendliness of the staff...
Liked the quiet location and the friendliness of the staff upon arrival and throughout the short stay. the food is excellent (I selected mussels and chunky chips). My partner selected the pork loin but it was slightly dry and the sauce was like toffee. But overall the food is delicious.
My stay was very short just one night but wished I had booked for longer as the breakfast Was delicious and the bed very comfortable.
