Dont be put off by first impressions. It's a very old property and yes a bit tired but Joy and Godfrey have done an amazing job in making this feel like home from home. They have put their heart and soul into this , the pub comes to life at night and just ask the locals what they think! A little gem and xmas decs amazing! I booked this for Cheltenham races due to prices. 20 miles away but only half hours drive and amazing value as a budget room. Sorry Joy I took my key home with me! I will put it in the post.

Wonderful hosts and delicious breakfast in a beautiful location. They have an amazing garden. Beautiful fresh cut flowers from their garden were provided in the room and about the house. Coffee and tea were in the room, fresh milk for the tea was in the room’s refrigerator and to my wife’s delight there was even a fan in the room. Wonderful stay.
The people in Newent were really friendly and helpful.
The people in Newent were really friendly and helpful. We shopped at the Co-op and got some ready meals from the Cook range - very useful on our first night as some restaurants were closed on a Tuesday. The local deli had a lovely range of food and we enjoyed a quick half in the pub before going to our accommodation . Will definitely be returning to Newent and looking forward to exploring the local area more .

As I arrived at night, I would recommend that all visitors ask for directions as it was not easy to find in the dark. There was no illuminated sign on the road and no brown signs either, although there were plenty of signs for other properties in the area. I suggest asking the Council for a brown sign.

Great location for walking in the Forest of Dean or along the River Wye. Lovely forest trail starting from Symonds Yat, all marked out.
Also enjoyed a river boat ride in this area.
Recommend a tour of Westons Cider, with samples to try at the end!
Excellent restaurant at Westons, Scrumpys.
Newent is a few minutes by car from the Golf Club, so convenient for shopping.

I travelled back from my Snowdon holiday to London, and because I did not want to rush, so just decided to have a night midway. I booked the room online 2 days earlier and payment was made immediately, receipt and invoice waited for me on the top of the bed. There is a golf club on site, the rooms are accessible from a courtyard, mine was a bit dark, but to be honest I was too tired to care of it. There is wi-fi, free parking, coffee/tea/kettle/juice, snack bar. No restaurant on site, but a few takeaway is available to call, there are leaflets and/or business cards in the room. I ordered chinese myself. Bathroom is very tiny, but shower gel/shampoo provided, and the whole place is spotlessly clean. Comfy king size bed with firm mattress (my fav), magazines, TV, a little fridge, but it was very weak. Easy to find, just turn down from the main road. I visited Croft castle (National trust) before my stay, and next day when I left, headed to Chedworth Roman villa, Lodge park then Ashdown house (All National Trust) before reached London. But because Cotswolds is in the neighbourhood, so plenty to see around.

The friendliness of the staff and locals was really welcoming and helpful.
We were on a photography trip so visited The International Birds of Prey Centre, Tewkesbury, Frampton on Severn, and Slimbridge Wetlands , recommend all of them.
The breakfasts were excellent. The location was lovely being out in the countryside. This meant a good nights sleep as it was very quite, especially in the comfortable beds. There are bus stops just outside the Kilcot Inn so a trip to Gloucester or the lovely village of Newent could be achieved without the need to drive. The car could be left on the very spacious car park at the Kilcot Inn.
The Red Lion is in a great location right in the centre of Newent. The best thing about our stay was the bed which is huge, superbly comfortable and has lovely linen. The bathroom is very nice and the shower is just fine. Fresh milk and bottled water in the fridge is very nice. Nice pub, great staff.
The town of newent is small and not much open Monday and Tuesday. Excellent location for our visit to the forest of Dean. Ate at the red lion Thursday evening one of the best meals we have eaten.
