Grantley Hall, hotel in Mickley

Situated in Ripon, 12 km from Ripley Castle, Grantley Hall features accommodation with a fitness centre, free private parking, a garden and a terrace.

Lovely welcome and professional approach to guests. The grounds and hotel is beautifully done, with what appears to be no shortage of staff, a relief in these times. Dinner in Fletchers was excellent, Sommelier was very helpful with our wine choice and everyone was very attentive. The food was delicious. Breakfast in Fletchers. Would hope on warm mornings there would be the option to eat outside, when/if we actually get those days. It was a very nice 'Full English' breakfast, good choice and not over facing thank goodness. There is a gift shop in the grounds, worth a look around to purchase home smells and ornaments.

Kings Head by Chef & Brewer Collection, hotel in Mickley

Overlooking the Market Square in the small town of Masham, this charming inn is set within a fine Georgian building of tremendous character, built in the second half of the 18th century.

Room fine, although door could do with a closer to stop it banging.

Swinton Park, hotel in Mickley

An exclusive 42-bedroom luxury castle hotel. With 4 Red Stars and 3 Rosettes awarded by the AA for excellent facilities, this is the highest rated hotel in Yorkshire.

We loved walking the extensive grounds and appreciated the size of our room. Our bathroom alone was the size of some hotel rooms. The port tasting was fun. The highlight was the owl and hawk experience, which was beyond fabulous. The place has a great and very accommodating staff.

You really need a car to get around, but I'd definitely recommend the Staveley Arms in the next village from Mickley, North Stainley, for food. Ripon is a £15 taxi ride away and is well worth a visit and the fantastic Fountains Abbey is close by, too. If any runners are reading this, I'd highly recommend the Fountains Abbey parkrun at 9am every Saturday morning.

We did not have time to explore the village and it’s surrounds, as we had other trips planned. It is a small rural residential area, with a lovely church. No pub or shop, but these can be found in adjacent villages. We travelled to the Blue Lion in East Witton, and the Staveley Arms in North Stainley and had excellent meals in both. We also visited Hackfall and the Himalayan Gardens, and found both of them to well worth a visit for their wonderful gardens / scenery and the opportunity for a 2-3 mile (easy / moderate) walk to enjoy the venues.

Mickley itself is small and quiet but delightful - very different from our home location - far away from the hubbub. It was a good spot for visiting the Yorkshire Dales or the N York Moors if you want to travel a little further.
