The Mey Hotel, hotel in Mey

Formerly called The Castle Arms, The newly refurbished Mey Hotel is a 19th-century coaching inn and Visit Scotland award winning hotel just 8 miles from John O'Groats, in the village of Mey.

Euan and Emma were the perfect hosts and made our stay feel like a gathering with friends rather than at a hotel. The accommodation was comfortable, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The home cooked food by Euan was delicious. Thank you both!

Excellent location overlooking the Bay. Room (The Bay Suite) was beautifully appointed with a large comfortable bed, en-suite bathroom, area for drink making etc. The room also has the added luxury of a bath in the bedroom with views over the bay. Sheila was an excellent hostess and our breakfast served in the room was exceptional with lots of choice.

Burnside Cottage, hotel in Mey

Featuring a garden, Burnside Cottage is situated in Wick in the Highlands region, 19 km from Sinclair's Bay and 3.6 km from The Castle Gardens of Mey.

Our stay at Burnside Cottage was amazing. Kacey was the perfect host, welcoming us when we arrived. The bed was comfortable and the shower great. In fact, the room was very well designed. We had everything we needed, including some really lovely organic soap and lots of hooks in the bathroom. Especially important for us, there was a fridge in the room. A lot of thought has gone in to making sure guests are comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding, the best food we had been served so far in our trip. I would not hesitate to book again if we get the opportunity to return.

The proprietors Euan & Emma were excellent company and very attentive to guests' needs. The hotel had an excellent menu with accompanying wines, beers, spirits, if required. The hotel also had an extensive range of locally-produced spirits. The accommodation was excellent and well-equipped. The only down-side was the lack of TV reception - although being without TV was somewhat of a blessing!

The owners were super-friendly and made me very welcome. The food was marvellous (dinner and breakfast). The room was comfortable and cosy and the atmostphere was overall warm and welcoming. The location was quiet and peaceful with little traffic going by to disturb the calm. Mey is only about 20 minutes from Thurso and is therefore a great stopover for the ferry from Scrabster to Orkney, which is what I was there for.

Emma and Euan had only got the keys at 3pm the day we arrived. They were perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble and the Dinner and breakfast was really nice . We were honoured to be two of their first customers. We will certainly recommend the Castle Arms Hotel and will definitely return one day . Wishing Emma and Euan all the very best in their amazing adventure . Thank you too for recommending Rock Rose gin 🥂

Mey is a lovely spot. We used it for the Pentland car ferry to Orkney. Easy to find, plenty of parking, house is a tardis! We had a front room, large with a generous sized wet room, the view from our room was over fields and we had a perfect sunset. Graham has put as many useful items in room as possible and more for cleaning bikes, cars - whatever. Breakfast was nicely cooked and generous. Super friendly host.

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The Mey Hotel has a very nice tearoom and restaurant on site which was very nice and the food was good. The location worked for me, although it is a bit of a drive from Thurso town center, but close to other sites that were more important to me!!! The layout of the hotel is charming and the outdoor space I am sure is lovely when weather is permitting.

Located along the north coast, it’s a great spot for exploring. There’s a very personal touch with this hotel, and we were made to feel very welcome. The breakfast was cooked to perfection, as was the evening meal. We sat in the lounge in front of the fire in the afternoon and enjoyed the ambiance of a very tastefully decorated room. Thanks for such a lovely stay.

Absolute gem of a B & B. Amazing warm welcome, so informative and nothing was too much trouble. Made you feel so at home and were very helpful in getting us a dinner booking at late notice at the hotel up the road. Added bonus we could walk to it! Lots of added extras for you, it just felt like everything was thought of with their guests in mind.

The breakfast was wonderful. All round lovely place to stay very close to the Castle of Mey and the ferry to Orkney. Well worth the money - in fact a real bargain for good quality

Breakfast was the perfect full Scottish, loved it! Great location for Castle of Mey and Duncansby Head, both of which we enjoyed immensely. Nearby Mey Hotel provided a superb evening meal to compliment Graeme and Eileen’s excellent accommodation.
