Willowdene shepherds hut, hotel in Llandysilio

Boasting garden views, Willowdene shepherds hut features accommodation with a garden and a patio, around 45 km from Chester Racecourse.

Location was perfect, the Shepherds Hut was exceptional, tastefully decorated, the separate hut for the shower and toilet was just as well maintained and all the added little touches added by the host Carrie made it a wonderful weekend. Loved the marshmallows and sticks provided for toasting on the firepit. The local pub 'The Original Ball' within walking distance with lovely food and friendly staff and customers.

I liked the remoteness but appreciate others may not. A great place to read, write or paint. Provision of a flask of hot water on arrival, with tea or coffee, was great and much appreciated. Lovely views.

Sweeney Hall Hotel, hotel in Llandysilio

Situated in Oswestry, in a historic building, 45 km from Chester Racecourse, Sweeney Hall Hotel is a holiday home with a garden and bar.

Beautiful family owned hotel overlooking the countryside, with cows and sheep for company! Staff were all very friendly and helpful, even though all were very busy and didn't stop! Dinner was delicious, and the bedroom for one (a small double), was very quaint. Happy to see a kettle and coffee machine, and a Roberts radio in the room. Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. I had to leave before breakfast was served so cannot comment on that. Hotel was very quiet overnight so I actually had a good sleep, even with the window open. The gardens looked lovely and are probably busy in finer weather. Would definitely return.

The Cross Keys Hotel, hotel in Llandysilio

This 18th-century, Grade II listed building is situated in the delightful village of Llanymynech, which straddles the border of Shropshire, England; and Powys, Wales.

The so-called 'dry breakfast' left outside the bedroom door at night was very generous and kept us going for much of the following day's hike. Don't expect emails (they don't do email) and don't expect them to answer the phone, but if you have a booking.com booking you will do just fine and will receive a warm welcome when you walk through the door of the pub. This place is ideal if you are doing the Offa's Dyke path, as it is right on the trail.
