The lady who runs the hotel was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed, the room was very comfortable, we had a key to let ourselves in whenever we wanted so we weren't kept to a timetable. We opted for the continental breakfast and it was fantastic I would definitely recommend this place to stay

While there aren't days worth of activities to do within Lairg itself, it offers lovely views and lovely food for those staying there or those passing through. The Loch is great for photo opportunities and there is a forrest walk there also. It is great as a base to adventure out from for a scenic drive to the west coast where there are sandy beaches, or to the East coast where there are lovely towns and castles to visit. The locals are also very friendly.

Every detail was traditional yet sustainable.

Every detail was traditional yet sustainable. This was a charming little town, a little off the beaten path but worthwhile. The stay felt safe, other guest friendly and staff desired to please. This location was easy to find, easy to park. My wife felt it could use more toilet paper. I never figured out how to work the soap dispenser. The breakfast and dinner were A OK. I would stay again.

Lairg was just what we wanted, a small quiet village, very clean and tidy, little shops that stocked everything, fish and chip shop was superb, Pier Inn had delicious food, lots of lovely walks, and community centre was full of information, very helpful staff, overall stay was great, and the River Shin, was lovely as was the Loch, if you want away from the rat race, Lairg is the place to go.

. Rather let down by local amenities that were not yet up to speed after lockdown. We were unable to book a table for dinner. Fortunately, the village shop has enough supplies for us to pull together a decent meal. The apartment kitchen was more than sufficient to prepare our meal.

Lairg is a very small village with limited but ample shops for supplies, we knew this in advance and this suited us as we were looking for a nice peaceful break. There is a Chippy that we used once after a long day out and the fish & chips were great 👍

Sutherland is one of the most magical places in the world but be prepared to get fuel when you can and stock up with food when you get a chance. Even when marked as open some of the shops and fuel stations are not currently open.

The accommodation is tastefully furnished and has everything you could think of to enjoy your stay. Hosts are really friendly and there if you need them. Really comfortable and ideally located not too far from local amenities. Very quiet and peaceful making a relaxing stay easy. Our 6 night stay was fantastic and we managed to complete the NC500. Night skies are so dark too you can see so many stars it takes your breath away. Thoroughly recommend Jakels Rest and would love to visit again in the future. Thanks Jan & Kelvin

The hotel is a little gem in Lairg. My husband and I had been travelling around the highlands and we were coming down from Stratpeffer to Lairg and we saw absolutely amazing sites; totally gorgeous. We were very much looking forward to getting to the hotel and we weren’t disappointed. The food was delicious. The one thing that jumps out is this hotel is mostly targeted to fishermen but everyone should get the chance to go and enjoy the experience. The bed was super comfy and we had a fabulous night sleep

The apartment exceeded my expectations - comfortably furnished, tastefully (concede that that's a subjective realm!) decorated and well- equipped, making for a relaxing stay. Very handy for the little supermarket a few metres along the road. Lairg, 'the crossroads of the North', is a good base for the quiet expanses of eastern Sutherland and (if you have a car!) the extraordinary mountain landscapes to the west. Communication from Jackie was in good time and was helpfully clear.

Colaboll Farmhouse is ideally located to explore Sutherland. The house is well equipped and enjoys the benefit of a boot room where you can quickly dry wet coats and boots. There is a log burner in the lounge for the cooler evenings and two areas to dine. There are good shops near by to get groceries and highly recommend a visit to The Pier cafe in Lairg,
