Set in a rural Scottish village.. the hotel was built by a soldier who returned from the battle of Waterloo. Its a home built in 1870s. If you think its a Marriott… it is not. Don’t even bother if you are looking for a corporate hotel experience. They have nice clean rooms, comfortable beds. The tile walls in the bathrooms glistened they were that clean. 2 robes, bath sheets for after bath / shower. The people have heart and give you every courtesy. They will pack you a lunch for a hike/hunting or fishing. The breakfast was in a beautiful room where we saw pink camellias out of the windows it’s a magical journey back in time.

Glen Clova is a hill walkers paradise of a hotel. Set amongst the hills and it’s totally beautiful! We’ve been here a few times, the staff are unbelievably friendly. The food is great and what’s better than a glass of something after climbing a few hills!

The weather wasn’t the greatest for early October yet there was enough to fill our time while staying in the area. Would definitely recommend Glamis and Stonehaven as optional excursions in addition to Kirriemuir.

Only there for one day.
Only there for one day. Visited Barrie's grave and birth place. High street has lots of character, interesting shops e.g boutiques, craft shops etc.
Didn't manage to see the Bon Scott statue but maybe next time!

The town is really nice but the centre looks like it has seen better days. There is a good ice cream shop/cafe and a great play park. The Camera Obscura is run by volunteers and wasn't open when we went. The police museum was though, and it is small but interesting. J. M. Barrie's birthplace seems quite expensive for a small museum but the garden is free and nice to see. I think there is only one bar that has a restaurant and the food wasn't particularly special. There are take-aways in the centre and there are other restaurants that you can drive to, but we couldn't get a reservation in any. On an evening there were a few drunk teenagers being quite loud and at times it sounded like someone was racing a car around the area.
The area surrounding Kirriemuir seems really good for walks and scenery. We went for a walk along the river at Cortachy, and a swim at Gella Bridge.

Seemed like a nice wee town with a good selection of shops, places of interest and nice walks. We ate in our hotel, The Airlie as the food was great, although there appeared to be a reasonable selection of other places to eat. Will certainly be back.

Starting with a great host in Susie, who was there to welcome and settle us into the apartment and show us all the necessary features.
Susie has really gone out of her way to create the home feel and definitely the ambience as soon as you walk in and wind up the stairs to the well spaced bedrooms and then up another flight to he kitchen/ lounge area, creates a sense of intrigue like no other.
We found the location great for seeing the great lochs, lomond, ness and the great Cairngorms and so an ideal for staying longer to see all four corners and explore the main cities too with the main trunk routes easy to access.
We will definitely be recommending this to our friends and family and for ourselves as the ideal space to enjoy Scotland from.

Stayed at the stunning Bank street gallery apartment in Kirriemuir. Great central location, a lovely wee town with its cobbled streets local pubs and play parks for the kids. All you need locally for a relaxing getaway.
Beautifully presented and converted to the highest standard. It was an absolute pleasure to stay and relax at Cullew Bothy. The hot tub is easily the best we’ve used too. Powerful jets and plenty of room to stretch out and relax in. The garden is enclosed and secure for letting the pooches out for a sniff it just to chill while we relaxed in the hot tub. Kirriemuir is only 10 mins by car away, with the larger town of Forfar around 15 mins or so. We’ll be heading back to Cullew Bothy again!
Very comfortable and beautifully furnished flat. Everything we needed was on hand and a very welcoming bottle of prosecco in fridge too! Kirriemuir is a lovely wee town and flat is so handy for centre. There is a beautiful wee garden to sit out in in the sunshine and lovely walks in a park down hill from flat too. Maureen and her friend were very helpful and always on end of phone if needed.
The hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff were exceptional and very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was well organised and very good. We had dinner both nights and the food was exceptional with special deals making the cost extremely affordable. We couldn't believe the prices. I certainly would recommend the hotel to anyone and would look forward to returning again.
An excellent cottage that contained everything we needed for our three night trip to Kirriemuir over the Hogmanay period. The kitchen had everything we needed, the milk, tea, coffee and biscuits were a lovely addition. Great location, easy walking distance to the town centre. We found Kirriemuir to be very dog friendly, the cottage was ideally placed for the walking network.
Maureen was so kind, friendly and accommodating. The property exceeded our expectations; the pictures don’t do it justice. It is well equipped and a real home from home. Kirriemuir is a lovely, lovely town, with everything you could need and well placed for exploring the local attractions. We really felt comfortable and safe, and loved every single minute of our stay!
The apartment is lovely and has a well equipped kitchen. It had everything in it that we needed, and more (e.g. a picnic blanket!). It was nice to find games in the cupboard, there is a TV and hundreds of books. There were also a few DVDs and CDs. The area is good for walks and scenery. The location is very central within Kirriemuir.
This was a nice apartment in the middle of Kirriemuir. The Co-op grocery store is very close. There is a bus stop nearby that we used to get there from Dundee. Also within walking distance of the JM Barrie house and other sights and shops. Within the apartment, the kitchen and living room were well equipped.
Nice cosy peaceful place, everything you need within 5 min walk, local coop, chipper, Dog friendly pub, nice big park, our pooch loved it, people in Kirriemuir friendly, Host kept us update and made us feel welcome and nice welcome pack, so we could settle in, thank you..
Warm welcome no explanation of the rules and regulations as we said that we visited last year, the jacuzzi in the room, great a good welcome place to rest my bones after a 5 hour drive and it's only a 5 minute walk away from the centre of Kirriemuir.
The atmosphere of the hotel, very friendly and loved how it associated with the history of Kirriemuir. Great location and menu/food was lovely. Rooms were a bit dated but I'm keeping with the hotel but linen and towels all very clean.
A very well run family hotel, the staff could not have gone any further out of their way to make our stay any more enjoyable.
I would highly reccomend The Thrums to anyone looking to stay in the area.
Nice to have a help yourself continental style breakfast.
Room was large and comfortable. Sitting area was very good in the room and the shower was excellent. Very clean and an enjoyable stay
Great central location in Kirriemuir. Heating quick to come on. Well appointed kitchen. Parking right outside front door. Close to local RSPB reserve and Back Water reservoir.
Everything was just fine. We had a good meal and breakfast at the hotel. The staff was very helpful. It was just an over nighter for us and worked out great.
