Duke Of Normandie, hotel in Kings Mills

We were in Guernsey for a short break and were unaware of Liberation Day celebrations until the last minute, so that was a welcome surprise We loved the apartment we stayed in. It was like a maisonette with the kitchen and lounge upstairs and the bedroom and bathroom downstairs. The bed was comfortable, and the pillows were. The bathroom was small and compact. The shower had enough power. The towel rail is heated, so beware, but it was nice to have hot towels after a shower, and if we had to hang up some wet clothes, the heated towel rail would have been handy. It was quiet at night. During Liberation Day, we could hear the siren going off from Victoria Tower at 9am and also the live music by the harbour. The kitchen was fully equipped with complimentary tea and coffee and biscuits. It's great that there was a fridge with complimentary water. Location was perfect and we didn't realise how close it was to the ferry port until the last day where you can go up the steps from the promenade and then access the alcove to where the hotel is. Just be warned there are lots of steps and steep hills. Moments from Ferry Port, walking distance from bus terminus and the walkway to Castle Cornet and Underground Military museum. We were able to view the fireworks from a great viewing platform. We had breakfast at Pickled Pig as it was included. Lots of food choices and the food menu was in the apartment, so you could see beforehand. Staff were friendly and cleaned our apartment every day even though we weren't expecting it as it was a self-catering apartment. Great overall experience during an eventful week.

The hotel is actually in Chantel and not King's Mills.

The hotel is actually in Chantel and not King's Mills. It is a short walk to Cobo Bay which was lovely. There are several bus routes available to get around the island. There are several beautiful bays around the island, white sand, crystal water, peace and quiet.

The staff were very friendly & the stay was comfortable & well located in a reasonably quiet area of Guernsey. It was listed as closed to the airport, but could have been closer, as the taxis still cost us £13.20 each way, as were travelling to Jersey early the next morning early. Breakfast is only served from 8 a.m here, so we had to miss that but in future would ask as to what time it is provided, as we were not offered a reduction in our hotel fee for our stay, so that was disappointing, as I am diabetic & could have done with an early meal to set me up for the day, given that we were travelling all day over in Jersey.

The hotel main buildings were characterful and expertly appointed to create a pleasant rustic experience. The hotel room (standard room) we stayed in was a reasonable size, well-appointed and very clean. The bathroom was very modern, smart and clean. The bed and pillows were good quality - firm but not hard. The bedding and towels were ultra white and comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast which offered a reasonable range of choice - something for everyone. We dined at the hotel in the evening, and the food was wonderful. Staff were smart, friendly and personable; also very hard-working. They welcomed our little dog, and there was an allocated area for dining indoors with a dog, which was appreciated.
