Hallgreen castle, hotel in Johnshaven

Set in Inverbervie, in a historic building, 29 km from Lunan Bay, Hallgreen castle is a country house with a garden and shared lounge.

Staying in a real Scottish castle is a wonderful and unique experience. It's far removed from a hotel chain and is quirky and individual. We loved it! The owner was very helpful and welcoming, and we would happily go back.

The highlight of the place was the hot tub for sure.. the kids loved it...we loved it! The place itself was clean and beds were comfy. The only downside was the shower..the water pressure was low when water turned to hot...The owners were very responsive and replied to our texts promptly...Otherwise, loved the place overall and definitely recommended!

Glenesk Hotel, hotel in Johnshaven

n the beautiful Scottish village of Edzell, boasting a sauna, a gym and a swimming pool, this hotel is situated at the foot of the Angus Glens.

I loved the personal and adaptable touch from the team. It was a quiet period for the hotel and I sat in the lounge before dinner where the lady in charge put the fire on just for me and made me feel really comfortable and well looked after. I even had my dinner next to the fire rather than sitting alone in the dining room, it was a very lovely touch and one I will always remember. Thank you.

We just stayed for the one night to break our trip up North. Not very much in Johnshaven that we saw, harbour & fish market, convenience store, tea room, gift shop which was shut and the hotel. Definitely recommend the hotel, great food & friendly staff.

Johnshaven is a fantastic coastal fishing village with great coastal walks and views. The Anchor Inn provides excellent seafood and refreshments. Unfortunately the accommodation was disappointing, primarily due to the fact it hadn't been cleaned. Also very questionable if it was truly intended as self-catering accommodation - would have been a major challenge to attempt any form of cooking with the kitchen equipment available.

Johnshaven is a lovely wee hamlet with beautiful sunsets and sunrises. It is certainly not a place to go shopping but has a lovely harbour and you can walk all the way to Gourdon on the flat if you feel energetic. Interesting wee place to poke around and explore....or try your hand with a fishing rod. There’s a great caravan site as well with a play area for the kids. You can grab lunch or dinner at the local hotel or get some takeaway fish and chips to enjoy outdoors at the harbour ..... weather permitting. 😂. This is the place for fresh seafood!
