Master Builder's House Hotel, hotel in Hythe

Set on the banks of the Beaulieu River within New Forest National Park, this hotel offers an AA Rosette restaurant and luxurious rooms, just 10 minutes’ drive from Beaulieu Palace.

I stayed at the Master Builders back in 1974 and had wonderful memories. I was keen to take my wife for a romantic birthday night away and revisit Bucklers Hard and the forest. Our room was perfect, a large and wonky room with oak beams and views across the river. After a pleasant meal and lovely evening walk we found ourselves drawn to the pub and the brilliant musicians who had drinkers dancing and singing along. A wonderful night of sleep followed by a great English cooked breakfast. Going back in November if not sooner.

The Montagu Arms, hotel in Hythe

This outstanding country house in the New Forest is home to the award-winning The Terrace Restaurant. The Montagu Arms boasts free parking and leafy gardens. The Montagu Arms dates back to 1742.

Very warm welcome on arrival and an excellent room. We ate at Monty’s which was great value and excellent quality. The evening receptionist suggested we could have morning tea delivered, which we did and it was on time too. We needed a postage stamp to post a card to our grandson and the lovely morning receptionist gave us one out of her own purse. She refused our offer of payment, how generous of her. Location is excellent for Beaulieu and the hotel has a large, secure car park and lovely grounds.

The Boathouse, on the Hythe Marina, is a great place to stop if you are visiting the New Forest and it's many attractions. There is a small High Street and access to the Hythe/Southampton ferry on the doorstep, should you want to visit the 'city lights'.

We ate Sunday lunch at The Boathouse, which was delicious. The weather was bad so we didnt go far. Another time we will catch the ferry to Southampton. On the way out we saw Hythe town centre and it looked a nice place to wander through. We will be back.

Nice little town with shops, pubs, restaurants and waterfront walks. Even a French market on a Wednesday. A small gauge railway takes you to the end of the pier where you get a ferry to Southampton and return. Lovely!

Hythe is a beautiful and peaceful village not far from several beaches and a stone's throw from the New Forest. The Boathouse Hotel is a beautiful hotel with very friendly staff that are very attentive to one's needs, and their cuisine also is outstanding in my opinion.

Hythe centre is tiny, but will particularly suit older travellers well as it is easy to explore, has a few nice individual shops plus two supermarkets and a few pleasant cafes/restaurants. It is right on the coast with pleasant walks, good views across a busy waterway and has good parking for 2 hour stays. Bus tours run from there and a ferry takes you across Southampton Water to the City. It is on the edge of the New Forest and not far to Lymington, Beaulieu and Exbury Gardens.

Small double room def small! Bathroom seemed more spacious.

Small double room def small! Bathroom seemed more spacious. No room for suitcase in bedroom of clothes storage. Had to place suitcase on bathroom floor to access it. Restaurant service appalling - slow, inexperienced staff and too few of them. Smallest piece of haddock in world served with fish and chips.

Staff were excellent and very welcoming. Continental breakfast included was a nice touch, with paid breakfast options also very well priced. Plenty of parking available and located in a stunning and quiet area with a great view of the marina, and a short stroll's distance to ferry/bus links to get into Southampton City centre. Fridge and Ironing facilities included in the room also very appreciated! Bed was very comfortable and we slept very well.

This place was fantastic, very clean, comfortable and homely place. The location couldn’t get any better as it was situated in the heart of Hythe with plenty of wonderful pubs/ restaurants and any amenity needed such as the main large supermarket chains. Elizabeth and Martin were fantastic and made us feel very welcome, recommending places of interest as well as their kindness and flexibility during our stay. Highly recommend this place!

The staff are lovely, the location is fabulous with views over Southampton Water and Hythe Marina - you need not even leave the hotel to see interesting things -passenger liners, commercial vessels, ferries and yachts coming and going. The food is very good. Hythe is a lovely little town, with ferry service to Southampton city and is an ideal centre for a holiday.

The location was good. Thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the local Town of Hythe. Good shops and plenty of good places to eat. Also loved the history of the old Avonmouth (Bristol) Mustard Gas Train, now used as part of the ferry crossing from Hythe to Southampton.

The hotel is a hidden gem . Any shortcomings were of our own making and in no way the fault of the staff . The weather was good so we enjoyed the terraces and the surrounding area as well as the inside of the hotel.
