Balcary House Hotel, hotel in Hawick

Balcary House Hotel features a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and restaurant in Hawick. With a bar, the property also has massage services, as well as barbecue facilities.

The Balcary is a beautiful house in Hawick, Scotland, with such a wonderful history. It dates back to the 1880s. It was also a home for children during WWII. It has such beautiful details throughout. The room we stayed in was huge and had a beautiful large bathroom. The staff were wonderful. They made sure if I needed anything while I was sick to let them know. I would suggest a stay, but beware of hearing things that may not be there, such as the Ghosts/Spirits that also reside here. I would love to stay here again the next time I make a trip to Hawick.

A wonderful town with so much history and things and places to see. Hawick is very hilly but okay to get around if you take your time as I did. We ate in the Locanda Romana restaurant, it was wonderful. The host/owner was very friendly and food very tasty.

    This apartment is all luxury.

This apartment is all luxury. It was such a pleasure to stay in. Very comfortable beds, ours even with a pop up TV in it. All the appliances were new and amazing. There was a basket of treats for us to use as well. I wished we’d booked to stay for longer than just one night.

It is a rather gritty town.

It is a rather gritty town. Has been quite industrial but has some lovely buildings and the river area is being upgraded with defence walls against flooding. There are a few nice restaurants in the town especially an Italian by the river Santa Marina. There is a fantastic park to explore which has a cafe and childrens play area and great for dogs with a stream to play in. The town has Cashmere outlet shops and a whisky distillery. It is noted for rugby. It is close to beautiful countryside and places such as Melrose, Selkirk and Peebles are not far away, plus the coast about an hour away where thete are stunning beaches

Great location for visiting the Borders Area, and whichever route you took out of the town you were quickly into countryside. Only slight drawback many restaurants only open Thursday - Sunday. Had to travel out of Hawick on Monday to get an evening meal and on Tuesday and Wednesday fairly limited choice, unfortunately sign of the times perhaps. Other that town had good facilities and a nice park with a good coffee house and eatery in the daytime.

Hawick is a border town built on ex council housing, the surrounding areas and history but if you want to go anywhere then travel north. Drugs truency and mason art are Hawick. Do not go in the winter other to see family which I did. Run down and bleak in the winter but if you want riding and recreation in the summer, it’s for you. Be warned you can get cut off in the winter.

Always love spending time in Hawick. Such a friendly town with some interesting shops and a great selection of knitwear. The park is second to none! Beautifully kept and so many different areas of interest. Great for exercising or a leisurely stroll. Super cafe for a pit stop along the way.

Annette went out of her way to welcome us, lighting up the log-fired hot tub in advance which stayed warm without a fire from 5pm until midnight (in October) and giving us guidance on Hawick (a well-equipped sizable town) only 5 minutes drive away. The Borders' scenery is excellent and our accommodation, as well as including everything for a stay for a family of 4 also had a patio and barbecue. There is an amazing amount of furniture crammed into the building but everything, including the beds was very comfortable and clean.

The very comfortable farmhouse is in extensive grounds in a very quiet valley a few miles from Hawick. The owners were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. The bed was extremely comfortable, along with the en-suite with lovely big fluffy towels! The freshly cooked breakfast was hot and very delicious. I can thoroughly recommend this farmhouse as a base to recharge the batteries and explore the Scottish Borders.

Absolutely everything! The owners are personable and lovely to talk with . The room and grounds were amazing to say the least and the two dogs Mac and Lily were an added bonus . The castle was literally 5 minutes from the center of Hawick where all our group was meeting so the location was convenient. Breakfast was wonderful and I loved the variety of choices . The whole experience was just amazing ! We will be back !

The Hawick Hotel was very handy for the centre of town. Our room was quite large with two double beds and an en-suite shower room. The facilities were a little dated and could do with upgrading but were perfectly satisfactory for our needs. Breakfast was ample with a fair choice of cereals, fruit juice and a full cooked breakfast on a serve yourself buffet. There is free parking on site.

The lady running the Hotel was very friendly and helpful. I felt very welcome and "at home" in the hotel. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable. The en suite toilet and shower was spacious and clean. I had an excellent night's sleep. The cooked breakfast in the morning was excellent. It set me up for the rest of the day. I felt sorry I was not staying longer.

This property was indeed very spacious and stylish! The owner, Matt was easy to communicate with and provided great beds, bedding, and “extras” such as coffee, tea, milk, and a Welcoming Basket. My husband is originally from Hawick so being centrally located behind the High St. was perfect for accessing restaurants, etc. Highly recommend! Thank you!

It was a good value clean room in a very convenient spot in Hawick. The owner was very friendly and helpful and provided a very varied breakfast the next morning. We were walking the Borders Abbeys Way and there was no problem us arriving with rucksacks, boots etc. The bathroom was very fresh and had a very big bath with shower.

What a lovely little find! As a family of 3 adults it suited us perfectly. The host has thought of everything, including cotton buds in the bathroom! Made our trip from Somerset for a funeral all the easier. Comfortable and fab location for supermarkets, town and main road access. Would recommend to anyone looking in Hawick!

Communication, friendly owners. Great garden, dog loved it. Very clean, COVID-19 cleaning top notch. Comfy beds and bed linen. Walks on the doorstep. Hawick a short drive away and enough shops to keep my older teen happy. Great park which we took advantage of with picnic when weather allowed.

This guest house was lovely. The room is large and has two very comfortable chairs. This is the best bed we have slept in over the course of this 3 week vacation. It is quiet, and I slept like a contented baby! The town of Hawick is very charming, also.
