A beautiful hotel. Designed by Edwyn Lutyens 1914, this hotel is worth staying at just to marvel at the architecture. Our room overlooked the entrance drive and had a lovely view of the neatly kept garden to the front. The room was comfortable and quiet, with tea/coffee and bottled water provided. A wide screen TV , comfy bed and powerful shower we're Stand out facilities. The staff, from Reception, Housekeeping to Restaurant/Bar were all polite and helpful. Notably, the weekend we stayed there were 2 wedding functions on. Neither impacted on our stay or caused any disturbances. We would recommend this hotel.

A hotel with lot of character. Old fashioned but very charming. Aurther was super professional and helpful. We got the family room which was large. The bathroom was modern. Water pressure great! Tea coffee in the room. In morning there was light breakfast with cereals, milk, juices, toast yogurt etc. the dining area was huge with bright light. If I were a writer I would have chosen this quiet hotel for a longer lovely stay. That sums it up!

The Wayside and Whisky Barn, hotel in Haverigg

The Wayside and Whisky Barns is located on the South West coast of the Lake District National Park at the base of Black Combe and 3 miles from Silecroft beach.

The Wayside & Whisky Barn ticked all the boxes. First class service, super comfortable beds, a beautiful roaring log fire in our bedroom and of course an amazing selection of over 150 whiskies. Not forgetting the delicious breakfasts with fresh home baked breads, plus we had a fantastic 3 course meal followed by Irish coffees on the Saturday night, total perfection. We will definitely be back soon.

don't go. spend your money in a place that appreciate it unless you wish to listen to foul mouthed people in the harbour hotel and have to put up with the rude and arrogant people who live there that's if they are not smoking drugs on the beach. the nicest people we met were the people on holiday and two ladies one of which had moved there 5 years ago. i am sorry to say we didn't get the opportunity to speak to any nice people who live there and no doubt they do but from the moment we arrived we were spoken to like dirt and the mad paint lady who was going around painting the pavements with the words no parking should really be spoken to by the local council and or police.

A small former fishing village on the West Cumbrian coast,...

A small former fishing village on the West Cumbrian coast, close to the town of Millom and the huge Hodbarrow nature reserve. The beach is clean, safe and extensive, backed by sand dunes which make ideal for children. The village has a friendly, well stocked shop, a post office, 2 pubs and a fish and chip shop with a varied menu. There are some great walks in and around the area, and the 3 mile beach at Silecroft, mentioned in The Sunday Times as one of Britain’s top ten beaches, is a short drive away. The Lake District is also within easy reach, Coniston being just a scenic 30 minute drive
