Best location for serious walkers. Great vibe. Wonderful staff. Extremely clean. Hikers bar superb. Restorative food and drinks. Did I mention the views?
It’s the last stop in the valley at the start of the great trails up to the high peaks between Great Langdale and the valleys coming in from the sea to the West. Its location is in an epic place.
It’s fairly simple, so not a 5 star. But perfectly fits the walker/climber vibe and is very clean and meets all your needs. It’s been there for ages and knows what it is about.
Set in 6 acres of gardens, New Dungeon Ghyll is a family-run hotel featuring an excellent restaurant, and rooms with dramatic views across the Langdale Valley.

Our accommodation was very good. Although we had to wait longer than expected.v no swimming pool. No fine dining. No residents bar. A shame. Completely different from last year when we looked over the hotel. The food was too run of the mill. Eat lunch time same menu in evening. Got told off for wanting to look at the residents bar that was closed. There seemed to be a lack of resources. To offer a drinks voucher instead of having your room cleaned each morning, would seem to be the sign of resourcing problem.
Having said all of this the Manager did his very best.
Breakfast was excellent.
The Lakes are our favourite holiday destination. But we would think twice about going back to the Wordswirth , such a shame as we had planned to make it an annual pilgrimage. l

Good location. Nice to have parking. Generous family room.
Breathtakingly beautiful! A joy to be walking in the hills, enjoying God’s outstanding creation! We stayed at the spectacular New Dungeon Ghyll and from there, we started our first wild camping adventure near Stickle Tarn as a married couple.

Probably the most scenic part of the Lake District.
Probably the most scenic part of the Lake District. Plenty of places to stay or eat. The road is quite narrow in places which means it can be slow going at times (especially weekends) . Bus service every 2 hours along the valley. Car Parks a plenty but can fill up very quickly, especially at weekends.

Beautiful surroundings.
Beautiful surroundings. An ideal stopover for walking the Cumbria Way.
A warm welcome from Finn and Marina in the very comfortable New Dungeon Ghyll hotel with good beer and excellent food.
The local National Trust bar called Sticklebarn is next door to the hotel which is warm and inviting and serves refreshments and food until 5:30pm. The choice of real ales is also very good.
There is nothing else here except beautiful scenery, sheep and walks. It has everything one needs.

The great langdales has to be the most perfect place in the UK , outstanding for anyone who loves the outdoors, there are plenty of walks, hiking, climbing, scrabbling, the most beautiful scenery at every glance.
Classic old Lake District hotel. Don't expect frills, but the beds are comfy and the rooms are warm (and it was well below freezing outside; I'd come to do some winter mountaineering). There was quite a bit of noise from a boisterous evening in the bar in my room, but nothing wrong with that - if I'd not planned to be up early I'd have gone and joined in! My price included breakfast but I left before they started serving so can't comment on the food.
Location perfect for walking/hiking - any number of great walks right from the front door. Breakfast excellent. Room and bathroom excellent. Parking excellent. Staff very friendly. Hotel having staffing problems, so a reduced dinner menu (3 choices per course - with repeats). While the location is wonderful for walking the hills, it is isolated at the end of the Langdale Valley, so accept that before you go.
Everything. There isn't anything that I can say that is negative about this hotel. The location is absolutely beautiful, the views are some of the best. The hotel itself is stunning, the room was really nice and clean. The staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. The food was amazing in the hotel, there really isn't anything bad to say about this place. Would recommend.
Outstanding location for fellwalking direct from the hotel. I appreciated the separate (free) parking facility for hotel guests as parking space anywhere in the central Lake District seemed to be at a premium at the time of my stay. Well-equipped room with very comfortable bed and large private bathroom next door. Good breakfast.
Great location for exploring Langdale valley and mountains. After a day hiking in challenging weather the adjoining Walkers Bar with its fire and decent bar was welcome. Good food too. Choice of eating in Walkers bar or in the restaurant. My room was spot on. Didn't want for anything.
The hotel has a lovely feel about it. The staff are extremely friendly and professional, without being over-bearing.
The views are beautiful.
The bar/restaurant is relaxing and the food is amazing.
Beds are very comfortable.
All round amazing hotel. We will definitely be returning.
We had a nice welcome, the room was as expected, a good size. The evening meal was lovely, and the full Cumbrian breakfast was delicious.
The location of the new dungeon Ghyll is unbeatable, right in the very heart of the Langdales, so many walking routes from the doorstep.
The room was spotlessly clean and cozy. The bathroom and toilet looked brand new. The owners were so kind and accommodating. I had a great sleep on the night before my hike for a great price of £65
The breakfast had good sausage which is the real test!
Staff very friendly especially chef and reception staff who went beyond what you would normally expect from a hotel - they actually cared
Location hotel area downstairs lovely building.
Staff very friendly and professional.
Good value for money for what we paid but that was due to the time of year and not being a weekend.
