Lovely apartment, nice and clean, with everything you could possibly need (including a dog crate that my daughter used for her teddy)! Great communication from the owners. The photos online don’t do it justice.

We received a really warm welcome from Gavin. The room was lovely with great views. Breakfast was second to none - lots of choice and superbly cooked. I’d definitely book again if we find ourselves in this area again. Thank you both.

Dornoch Castle Hotel, hotel in Golspie

A 500-year-old converted Scottish castle, this hotel is set in the centre of Durnoch, opposite a 13th-century cathedral.

Was booked into a garden view room which I didn’t like so was moved to a beautiful castle room. Great wallpaper and beautiful bed (same as mine at home) good linen and loved the bed. Great night sleep. Restaurant is amazing and good whiskeys in the bar. Buffet breakfast excellent.

Royal Golf Hotel, hotel in Golspie

The Royal Golf Hotel is located overlooking the first tee of the Royal Dornoch Golf Club. Many rooms have stunning views of the course and the sea.

Breakfast was disappointing - poor buffet selection and the porridge was lumpy and tased like it had been quickly cooked in a Microwave.

Golspie is a very pleasant town that offers good local attractions - such as Dunrobin Castle which is well worth a visit, including a captivating falconry display. Walkers are well catered for with the coastal path - taking the train to Brora and walking back along the coast to Golspie is a good day's outing. The climb up Ben Bragghie is a steep pull but offers stunning views and a close up view of Golspie's famous landmark: first Duke of Sutherland's statue. Golspie has plenty of parking and a reasonable range of shops. It is a bit short of cheap and cheerful restaurants. The Stag Hotel offers reasonable bar food but beware - it's kitchen tends to close very early in the evening!

Lovely locals. Didn't go in the pub, but there was one. Couple of wee coffee shops and a chippy. Co-op and Nisa shops on the door step. Not the prettiest beach in the world, but I was still more than happy to walk on it every morning. Great wee town, I would move their tomorrow.

My child loved the play facilities (and in one park, they have exercise-style ones, too). He liked walking along and discovering play parks. Seaside, and especially the Big Burn Walk, which is really beautiful. We could have spent more time exploring. We felt safe in Golspie except for the main road, where heavy traffic is too fast considering how close it is to pedestrians on the fairly narrow pavements. We spent a long time in the shop that sells gem stones as my son was fascinated and delighted to be allowed to touch the difffferent stones. He asked whether they might have magical powers! People in Golspie were all very pleasant. A good place for a short break.

We spent a couple of nights at the end of our holiday in Golspie, but there were so many walking options locally that we could have stayed another couple of days, not to mention further afield within easy driving distance.

Golspie well located in N Scotland - access to the far north, but also with 1.5h of the West Coast via nearby Lairg. I ate in the Trawler fish restaurant which was excellent with friendly helpful staff.

I get the feeling as we mentioned we had two dogs we were given a designated dog room. And a dog of a room it was, our dogs did not come into the hotel at all and slept in the car boot overnight. We mentioned we had dogs as we did and they were exercised in the grass area to side of the hotel. I feel that certainly room 8 could do with a lot of tidying up and care being spent as it was not a pleasant room to be in. With split wall paper, stains/ marks on wall, rippled carpets, noisy plumbing, thermostat hanging on radiator, jamming door, no shower but a dated bath with a cigarette burn on the base really didn't make it value for money !
