Nice hotel, room was decent size but the bed wasn't comfortable (made some awful noises when turning over). Evening meal and breakfast was average pub grub. Very expensive for what we got. It was missing the little details.
With sumptuous furnishings and wonderful views across the Lorton Valley, Hundith Hill Hotel sits on the outskirts of Cockermouth.

The location was perfect for hiking in and around the area. The staff, the room, the evening meal and breakfast were all exceptional!
Amazing value for money.
The building itself with the backdrop of the mountains was truly breathtaking.
Highly recommended.
Will definitely be going back.

Lovely decorated and very clean hotel. Basic amenities available. Easy to check in and out. Breakfast included at Fika was lovely as well.
Gilcrux is a tiny village with a good pub serving good food.
Gilcrux is a tiny village with a good pub serving good food. The area is very rural so it is just the very beautiful country side with a few towns not too far away like Cockermouth with lots of nice shops and eateries, and coastal towns on the West coast like Maryport and Silloth near the Solway Firth.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the local beeches caravan park. We had food and drinks in The Mason Arms which is dog friendly. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Food was delicious. Everyone we encountered was friendly. A local recommended a pizza place called Bella pizza in the next village dearham which was delicious. Gilcrux seems a lovely friendly village.
