Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, hotel in Flookburgh

The family-run Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is set beside the Kent estuary in the picturesque village of Arnside, officially named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The location on the estuary is fantastic. Our room overlooked the Kent viaduct which offered super views including wide ranging wildlife. The bedroom was of a good size and offered all amenities with a super spacious and comfortable bed. The breakfast offed a good selection and was extremely tasty, we also had an evening meal, the menu offered a good range, our meals were well presented and certainly hit the spot. The staff from entry to leaving were super, this is our second stay, somewhere I will return to again and recommend to anyone.

The room had a problem with ants every where especially on the bed linen and pillows which made sleeping very difficult, The music was extremely loud and went on until after 11pm also the patrons leaving the Hope and Anchor were very noisy making it very difficult to try to go to sleep. The most unfortunate thing was the pub did not do any form of breakfast which as a diabetic this was crucial we only found out about breakfast after we booked in and was too late to cancel. Very Disappointed

It's a bit like a Town that time forgot .......

It's a bit like a Town that time forgot ....... With a bit of effort it could be greatly smartened up generally and be made much more appealing ... The Hope and Anchor is a lovely pub with very good food at reasonable prices and dog friendly.....

    Very friendly and helpful staff.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Cook who prepared great meals for us. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Room very well presented. Excellent choice and quantity at breakfast time and the offer to take away food for lunch time if you wished! We hope to go again and recommend it as a place to stay. Easy parking and free in the village square just in front of the Hope and Anchor. We are evening meals in the pub. Very easy to walk in the surrounding countryside, which is attractive. We visited Grange over Sands and took the train across the bay to Arnside. We visited Levens historic house , Holbeck Hall , and Muncasrer castle as well as walking on the coastal path.

Interesting history, vibrant community and good facilities for a village with an artisan baker, large church and railway station. We ate in the Hope and Anchor. The beef burger and falafel burger were both well flavoured. Good selection of wines and local beers on tap.

Just south of the lake district.

Just south of the lake district. About half hour drive to Grizedale forest (family friendly walks, bike trails and go ape) or Windermere. Really good location for exploring South lakes. Lots of outdoor activities nearby. Lots of Haven park activities for families but we didn't try as only have a one year old. We didn't go into the village but there's a chippy, post-office etc. We had fish and chips from the Haven chip shop. They were undercooked and batter was stodgy. Wish we had tried the chippy in the village.
