I was visiting my parents, so not as a tourist.

I was visiting my parents, so not as a tourist. There are lovely walks nearby and the roads are popular with cyclists. The local shops (those at walking distance from the hotel) are friendly You can get a good Indian meal at Yasmin. The Italian Cafe/Deli (Annare?) is good, with some tempting treats. It's very popular and rightly so. There are buses to Guildford. It's quite a distance to the railway station, and don't expect a lot of taxis. The Duke of Wellington pub does good meals and drinks and has lots of outdoor seating.

My room was taty and not very clean.

My room was taty and not very clean. Bathroom came with a broken sink and after I flushed the toilet had to wait 3 minutes for the water from the tap. The carpet on the corridor was held together with gaffer tape. The whole place had a very dated feel. Not worth the money.

I was only here for two nights as I was there to watch a local Showcase that was held in a little theatre called the Nomad Theatre. What an excellent way to spend a few hours. Lovely area, lovely theatre.

East Horsley is a convenient place to stay with many places to visit in the surrounding areas. The Surrey Hills are very picturesque. Guildford is close by and I would recommend taking the park and ride which is en-route from the hotel. RHS Wisley is stunning and I would also recommend a visit to Pyrford Lock and Dorking.

Thatchers told us a week before our stay they were having refurbishment, so offered a room in their sister hotel, the hogs back. Assuming it would be as nice as thatchers looked, I agreed. It wasn't! There was a child's coat on our bed when we arrived, the staff were awful, the shower had some disgusting brown stuff on the outside and to top it off the mattress and protector were filthy! We left, and stayed at the bush hotel which was amazing.

Staff were very helpful, especially Romanian lady on reception, who gave us fan and extra towels. Breakfast was good. Our room was fine although I heard another guest moan about the state of theirs, which the receptionist arranged to move them. This hotel has great potential to be better than it is. Lovely gardens .

I have stayed at this hotel a few times. They always ask for card even if you have already paid which irritates me. Unfortunately my stay was cancelled by the hotel. They are still open but are refurbishing. When they cancelled, You still seemed to be able to book a room but at double the price. Not very helpful.

Roxanne (?) in reception was EXTREMELY helpful and is an asset to the hotel. For golfers playing in the area, it is in a very suitable central location for the Drift & Effingham.
