Unfortunately we arrived quite late so not really able to explore the village, though we did have a walk around the grounds of the Abbey. We would have liked to visit the Astin Martin museum though found out it was actually closed on Sundays. Will definitely visit the area again, perhaps in the warmer months.

    Very interesting historic village.

Very interesting historic village. Little through traffic thanks to the bypass so quiet. Dorchester Abbey is well worth a visit. Lovely walks all around, lots of footpath signs. A 10 minute easy walk brings you to the bypass where you can catch a frequent bus service into Oxford/Wallingford, and the buses run until early morning!

It was our first visit there and we were pleasantly surprised how beautiful this village was, full of old traditional charm and quaint cottage style houses. There were a few pubs there offering a variety of food and drinks. We really enjoyed the fish platter at The George Inn as their Friday offer. We had a pleasant walk around the village and visited the Old Abbey.

The George is a wonderful hotel full of traditional charm and character as you would expect from a coaching inn built in the 15th century. The rooms, renovated in 2022, are very comfortable and well finished. Many of the rooms are based on themes with local connections which adds to the charm. The hotel has been a location for TV shows such as Midsummer Murders and Miss Marple and this is reflected in some of the names. The staff are also genuine and friendly which also contributed to an enjoyable stay.

The minimal staff and owner were lovely, helpful and friendly. This establishment has so much potential but needs to address staffing situation. There was a long list of staff vacancies in the toilets which clearly speaks volumes. Our room was super and clean. Great shower and tea/coffee making facilities. Comfortable bed. Beautiful location. We would go again as long as we were assured of a decent menu... and a chef!

Such a welcoming check in. Jonathan was very helpful about availability of taxis (no availability!) My main issues with hotel rooms is usually not enough milk in the room to have more than one hot drink each and towels not big enough, however, not at The White Hart. More than enough milk supplied and towels were bath sheets and very fluffy. Breakfast menu was very comprehensive and food was delicious.

Lovely old building with wonky walls and creaky floors just as I had hoped. Good comfort food menu, I had the lamb which fell off the bone my husband had the fish and chips. John on reception was really helpful and offered to assist with luggage which, although not required, it was nice to be asked. Good breakfast too. We stayed in room with a four poster bed and a view of the abbey.

All the basics were fine. Apparently the Chef had recently walked out so there were no evening meals available which forced us into the George Hotel just up the road where the food and service was excellent so this turned out to be a blessing in disguise It was overall reasonable value for money
