We left the hotel and returned and was told by receptionist we did not have to re enter our car registration which has now resulted in receiving a fine!

Friendly staff. The pub was quite busy when we arrived so there was a slight delay in getting our room, and there was an hour wait on food but the excellent food and facilities made up for that.

This perhaps wouldn't have been my first choice as we only wanted a one night layover close to the motorway and maybe closer to a town centre but I struggled to find something that caught my eye with parking and so ended up looking at alternatives. I did wonder what we'd let ourselves in for as we drove down the long winding country road that lead to the hotel but as we turned into the drive it certainly looks impressive. Its very old with loads of history and set in large grounds. I think its core business is weddings and events but it was excellent. The staff were superb , especially Nick the waiter/barman and unofficial tour guide ! We chose to eat in the restaurant which was quiet but excellent. Breakfast (included) was great too. Our room was one of the 'newer' ones outside in a converted outbuilding - fine, but it would have been interesting to have stayed in one of the house bedrooms which I assume have loads of history and features.

We stayed for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the area with the Severn Valley Railway so close by. The accomodation was excellent and well furnished. The instructions seemed strange with access codes and not meeting anybody but it was great with no problems. Once inside the room there were fobs for future access through a gate, then a side door then a key for the room, easy and we felt secure. We heard other people but never saw them. Wetherspoons was 5 minutes away and we went there for breakfast and evening meal. This was a stop on the way home from Cornwall and a good value for money and comfortable extension to our holiday.

1. Reception and waitress staff very helpful, friendly and professional.
2. Waitress Jess gave a master class as to how to induct, train, teach hospitality work to a "work experience" youngster - a master class as to how it should be done - I suggest Jess is moved to group training and be considered for "employee of the month" award for the Stone hotel.
