Keith and Pauline were great hosts, very welcoming and friendly. The room and ensuite were clean and spacious and they provided some extra touches which were very much appreciated. I liked the way they had themed the rooms, each one being named after an old stamp and decorated accordingly. (They are The Old Post Office after all!) Their home is beautifully decorated with lots of knick-knacks and art work. There were several choices for breakfast which was delicious. They are situated in a beautiful area with good access to the City of Durham and Beamish Museum.

Incredible stay. The setting of the lodges are truly stunning and the lodge itself matches it's beautiful surroundings. Everything was immaculate and well thought out. The views from the on suite bathroom provide the perfect place for a bath, whilst the outdoor hot tub is an added luxury. I can't wait to return!

It is in a pretty part of the world. About a five minute walk for the house in Shotley Bridge is a Restaurant "Sale &Pepe" basically Italian but with other cuisine as well. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much we went two days in a row.

The room was ok but it had a few things that didn't work the way they should have. Dinner and breakfast needed more staff. This could have been to Covid issue but one or two more staff would have been helpful to all.

This accommodation is in Castleside, which is just outside Consett.
The countryside around the village of Castleside is beautiful. Consett is post industrial, not the prettiest town on the planet, but what you would expect from a history of Iron and coal mining in the North Pennines.
The county of Durham has a wealth of history and great places to visit - so go and visit it all, the not so good balanced with beauty!
Hotel and staff were lovely. However not happy with booking.com and the way they advertise. We thought we had booked dinner bed and breakfast only to be informed that the booking was for breakfast only. If we knew this and the advert was clearer we would have booked the cheaper option which includes breakfast!!!! I perceive this as false advertising and would appreciate someone contacting me as it makes me reluctant to book via booking.com in the future. Feel conned as this was for my grandson’s birthday and his first stay in a hotel !!!!!
The first hotel room I was given was beautiful: gorgeous decor, spacious with a decent-sized bathroom, toiletries, and an excellent tv. There was a stunning view of the countryside from the window, a desk, a comfortable seating area and a coffee machine with Starbucks capsules. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful if they tried, especially Freya, who found me an alternative room due to my noise issues.
The location just outside Consett is very nice and there are many animals nearby. Our room was clean, comfortably furnished and had a very large, comfortable bed. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired and is amply sized if you want. There is also plenty to do for families with children, e.g. a petting corner, alpacas, donkey etc. We give *****.
Nice quiet location with easy access to Consett and beyond, nice spacious accommodation with everything u needed, the kitchen had all the home comforts of washing machine, dishwasher etc, plenty of room for 4 people also penty of parking on the road
The hotel was lovely. Lots of art work and decoration that was different and sparked conversation and interest.
Room was great too.
Lady on pool reception and hotel reception were fab.
Family friendly (apart from breakfast prices)
Good location nice grounds hotel clean and great decor. The room was big with great country views. The bar area was nice with games area plus quiet areas. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The staff were delightful, really friendly and chatty and helpful. We felt very welcome, there was convenient storage for our bikes and the room was spacious and the shower was powerful.
The breakfast was good. The restaurants were good. We didn’t get the chance to use the pool but it looked nice. It was a nice place for 1 night. The rooms and hotel were ‘stylish’.
The breakfast was excellent for taste and choice. The location is great as a base for this lovely area. Catherine was very helpful with the timing of our visit.
Hotel is very classy and stylish. Room was very clean and comfortable. All the facilities are excellent. Pool and gym facility could use some upgrades and TLC.
