Cirencester has almost everything a visitor would want from a market town including a Saturday food and produce outside market and a arts and crafts indoor market. This is alongside many high street chain shops as well as small independent shops. There are many restaurants, wine bars and pubs as well to choose from covering all sorts if tastes and preferences.

There is an interesting mix of shops, arts arts and crafts, parkland, cafes and historical sites. The church is beautiful inside and is worth a revisit to take it all in. The historical buildings from different centuries side by side give it character and is a surprise each time you walk through an alley or turn a corner.
The food sold on the farmers market is a good quality and mix and the craft market is also high quality.
We will be revisitng.

The market square, overlooked by St John's church - 'the cathedral of the Cotswolds' is very beautiful. The church is staggering - very large and ornate - an architectural jewel. Parking in town was easy enough (April, Easter holidays).
The market outside the church (we were there on a Friday morning) was small but all of the stalls were interesting, with very high-quality fish, vegetables and bakery.
We ate well at our hotel, the Stratton House just out of town on the Gloucester Road.

We loved the small independent shops in the high street and the various arcades off the streets.
There was a great selection of places the eat or tea/coffee shops.
The town had an outdoor market on at least Fridays and the Corn Hall (indoor market hall and tearoom) also had an antique market at the time of our visit.
The Parish Church (also has a model of the abbey) and Abbey grounds (abbey was demolished on order by Henry VIII but the footprint and artist impression remain at the site) were also lovely but unfortunately we didn't get round to checking out Cirencester Park or the Roman Amphitheatre (just the earth mounds left).
We we staying within 10 minutes walk but the town had plenty of reasonably priced car parks which became free after 6 pm.
While the Parks offer activities for Children and if you love your Roman History the museum is a must, the town is nore aimed at couples and more mature adults.

Evening meal in the Fleece Hotel was excellent.
Evening meal in the Fleece Hotel was excellent. We travelled on the no 51 bus. Cirencester Parish Church is worth a visit. Enjoyed browsing books at Waterstones and the cafe there. The market is good too.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Thames Head Wharf. The hosts, Chris and Ann, were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and made us feel very much at home. The room was clean, comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped. The location is very quiet and peaceful, about 3 miles outside Cirencester, with beautiful views across the countryside. We enjoyed walking across the fields to the source of the River Thames and to a couple of nice pubs about a mile or so away. There is free parking on site. We would highly recommend Thames Head Wharf!
The staff were very welcoming and helpful, what a great team.
After we checked in we enjoyed dinner in the pub and had had an amazing Beef Wellington. If this is your favourite, you will not be disappointed.
The following day it was a brief walk to the spa hotel for a delightful breakfast in the dining area over looking the gardens. The menu offered a wide selection of breakfast choices, we was spoilt for choice.
A lovely place to stay.
The property has a great location in the middle of the Cotswolds so easy access to the towns around. It’s very modern and cozy, and it has everything you need. The room has beautiful toiletries with great smell. The staff is very friendly, professional and very attentive. I mentioned that staying at the hotel was a birthday treat for my boyfriend, and the staff left a birthday card and a box of chocolates for him at our arrival. Very thoughtful!! :)
The Fleece is a beautiful hotel full of Cotswold charm and character, right in the centre of Cirencester. The room was cosy, well thought out with modern touches and the bed was comfortable. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, and our experience completely matched the expectations we had after having carefully read the great reviews. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a wonderful stay in a great Cotswold location.
The hotel staff are excellent, very professional and friendly. Car parking is very good and the hotel location is ideal being a short walk to the town centre and in a very quiet spot. Breakfast was superb, freshly cooked with lots of choice. We also had an evening meal which was equally lovely. Our room was a compact double on the top floor which was clean and comfortable and had tea and coffee making facilities.
We stayed at this hotel pre-COVID and when we were passing through the area this summer we remembered to stay here again. The hotel is memorable and the room, grounds, breakfast and staff are lovely. This hotel provides a superb value for money. We had no complaints about this hotel and we will certainly stay here again when we return.
The hotel is absolutely lovely, possibly one of the nicest I have ever stayed at. Everything is beautifully designed and even though it is new, it fits in perfectly with the Cotswolds surroundings. Very dog friendly as well with little treats in the room and vegan friendly as well.
Lovely outside area with a path to walk the dogs.
I would not usually choose to stay at an expensive hotel but for a special occasion this hotel is good value for money. It is quietly understated welcoming, and cosy with excellent staff who go out of their way to make your stay the best ... special mention for Andy the gardiner who told us all about his chickens.
We stayed in a room with a lake view, the views were incredible and places to eat around the hotel had amazing views too, staff were lovely on check in and check out, the lady on the front desk who dealt with us both times was fab but didn’t get her name! Room was lovely and clean would love to stay again!
Loved our stay. Property is good size and there was a plenty of room for all of us. Kids and adults enjoyed the stay. Definitely better than hotel rooms. I’m really glad we chose Auroras Dream Losge. Property was and clean and excellent location.
My family spend two weeks traveling England, from IoW to London, and The Old Brewhouse was our absolute favorite. Perfect location in Cirencester, gorgeous house, and the best breakfast I think I’ve ever tasted.
Thank you, Rosemary!
I liked the location of the hotel, it sits away from the town centre, yet a short walk to get there. It was lovely and quiet with very individualised rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great outside space too.
The staff was very nice and gracious. The spa was beautiful. Cirencester was a great place to stay in the Cotswolds with many more options and a short drive from the other towns. Kings Head was right in the center.
Room was very well furnished and comfortable. Lovely view across the lake. I really enjoyed my dinner. The harissa chicken was super tasty. The hotel served a very good breakfast in a very comfortable dining room.
The apartment was spacious, the hotel is located in the middle of the town centre so only 1 minute walk to a lot of restaurants. The apartment was relatively clean and tidy. Check in/check out was easy.
The Eliot Arms is outstanding Cotswolds accomodation. The rooms are excellent and there is a quality bar and restaurant within the hotel. The staff are very engaged. I look forward to staying again.
