Skerrols House, hotel in Bruichladdich

Within 15 minutes’ drive of 4 of the Isle of Islay’s whisky distilleries, Skerrols House has uninterrupted countryside views and is just a 5-minute drive from the coastal village of Bridgend.

The location is very quiet, in the middle of a beautiful landscape. Great for a nice morning walk. Still, within a short drive you can find restaurants, distilleries etc. Thomas is a very friendly and welcoming host. Rooms are great, spacious, newly renovated. Breakfast ist awesome! Try the scrambled eggs any version. Very nice garden to sit with a beer or for kids to play. Will come again any time we’ll have the chance. My whole family was very happy here.

The room was comfortable clean and just what we needed with a bit of space. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was included and was great nothing like a hot cooked breakfast before venturing out for the whiskey trail. Highly recommended!

The Islay Hotel, hotel in Bruichladdich

On Islay’s famous Whisky Coast, in the fishing village of Port Ellen, overlooking the harbour and marina and just 2 hours by ferry from Kennacraig on the Scottish mainland, The Islay Hotel offers a...

The Islay Hotel is a great location for shops, eating out, distilleries and beaches. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Our room was spotlessly clean and well organized. The breakfast was a very good start to our day. In addition to the hotel, we recommend the café at Ardbeg distillery for lunches and teas. On the road to Bowmore (on the right-hand side) is the Balaclava Byre Farm Shop and Restaurant, which also provides delicious food, using local produce from Islay.

Fiona was the best host we had in Scotland. Did so much to make us feel at home, well fed and informed. Her home is wonderfully decorated and interesting. She is very friendly and we enjoyed our conversations with her and other guests. We will stay with her again and make it a longer one next time. I’ve already recommended her to all my friends.

Islay is a beautiful place, we could have spent another week there to fully enjoy the island and the locale. We were focused on whiskey (uisge beatha) but also enjoyed local walks, the woolen mill and local restaurants. Booking is recommended for any meal you're eating in a restaurant. Also if self catering - there are only a couple of Co-op stores (no big supermarket). You can feed yourself but choice is limited.

    Went for New Year 2022-23.

Went for New Year 2022-23. Definitely need a car to get about. Locals are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Not much open due to Festive period. 15 min drive to Coop in Bowmore or the shop at Bridgend 7mins was open. The weather was lovely and there are some lovely walks and wildlife to be seen. If looking for ancestors there are plenty of graveyards to be visited on Islay. LOL.

A lovely village on Islay, a good base to explore the north of the island. Mini-market shop stocks some essentials and serves great coffee and cake. You need to head to Bowmore for a ‘shop’ and bigger choice of restaurants etc. Bruichladdich distillery is a great visit, and it is easy to head down the coast road to Port Charlotte and Portnahaven.
