The room was fabulous, excellent decor and furnishings, facilities are great, bed was comfy. Liked the bay window seat. The breakfast has plenty of choice for fussy eaters like me and Ringtons tea. Didnt dine but the menu looked interesting.
We loved our stay there

Liked everything about it, very quiet and peaceful, could hear and see the birds. The location is fairly central to Cockermouth and Keswick. We loved Mirehouse too, definitely worth a visit and that is close by.

A quiet little village in the north of the Lake District far enough away from the main towns of Keswick, etc. to enable you to enjoy the peace of the Lake District without the crowds. Some nice pubs in and around the village where you can experience the local atmosphere and mix with the locals. Best to have a car to explore the areas around the village.

Covers a Friday on an outward joyride <500 miles and an inward of similar distance on the following Monday. Allocated a large room at £119 on Friday and a noticeably smaller one on our return on the Monday at a rate of £129 - no explanation. The hotel allows dogs in dining areas and it was overrun, one customer had 3 dogs, all filthy. Hotel should allow in one area only

Good food, good beer and some nice wines. Friendly staff.
Good food, good beer and some nice wines. Friendly staff.
My room was a little overpriced for what it was (a small double) would be very cramped if two people sharing, but was adequate for the nights stay I needed. I travelled down from Scotland on my way home to London and stopped on the way overnight just to get a dinner and some rest.
The room was in front of a shared entrance so could be noisy and the other guest rooms were close so could occasionally hear talking and general noise. The window opens up onto the road and the car park opposite so can also get noisy if guests arrive or leave.
The location of the premises is perfect for access to walks and the lakes.

Fabulous location for walkers.
Fabulous location for walkers. Great variety of routes of different ranges of difficulty. Ospreys are back nesting at the southern end of the lake for bird watchers. Range of other activities too for none hikers!
Absolutely stunning location, views of the mountains, the waterfall, the lake and even the sea.
Whatever the weather, it was gorgeous. So quiet at nice, with only the sheep or the chickens making the odd noise.
The house is amazing, such a lovely atmosphere and feel to it. The bath was amazing too. Water gets very hot and really good pressure - much better than i get at home.
It's also not too far from Keswick if you need to go to town (although it takes a little while to get to the main road!).
absolutely fantastic cosy cottage in a peaceful location close to Bassenthwaite village . fantastic views from the lounge and bedrooms. short walk to the village where there is a lovely pub called the sun inn who are very friendly and do great food . the cottage had panel heaters in every room so it’s always warm . good supply of logs and fire lighters for the stove. can’t fault out stay it was perfect. great base for walking.
Very quiet and charming place🥰 I visited Fidel every morning (alpaca)☺️ it was very clean and dishwasher is a big plus🥳 There is an agility area for dogs (I am traveling with two dogs) where they can run off leash. There is also plenty of space around to walk your dog on a leash ,And the sunset 😍😍😍 we will definitely come back here again 😍 Also very close to lake district park.
Excellent location on the flank of Skiddaw and a short drive to Keswick. Ideal location for the North lakes and surrounding area. We liked the farm environment and everyone was super helpful. The interior of our room was exceptional. The window was a bit small but as we spent most of our time out doors it isn't really an issue. We were able to plug in our EV for charging.
This hotel is located in a quiet location close to Sale Fell. Lovely room, clean and tidy. The shower was fantastic, especially the handshower was like a high pressure cleaner.
View on lovely maintained garden in true ‘geoffrey smith’ style.
The walk up Sale Fell which starts from the hotel is worth walking. The views from the lop are really awesome.
Very comfortable room on the edge of Bassenthwaite lake. Generous tea tray provided with homemade biscuits. Flowers on the windowsill were a lovely touch. We made use of the fridge to keep breakfast & picnic foodstuffs.
The luxury shower gel, soap & hand lotion were also appreciated.
Very quaint hotel, lovely grounds but a bit too wet to explore this time around.
It was a busy hotel with lots of comings and goings, staff were really friendly and food was also good.
Good choice for breakfast also.
Really enjoyed our stay.
Plenty parking also.
Very special place. This gorgeous farmhouse was the perfect home base for our family visit to the lake district. You could spend your entire trip just enjoying the immediate surroundings. Everything was clean, comfortable, and like the pictures but more beautiful!
Gardens are beautiful. Bathroom was very nice.
Access to the fells Sale, etc. was excellent. They had two decent draft beers on tap.
Breakfast was very nice and a good selection from the continental area as well as the à la cart menu.
Plenty of good parking.
A wonderful cottage which was very well equipped and perfectly located for exploring Bassenthwaite and the surrounding area. We were left a lovely welcoming basket which was very much appreciated. We would definitely recommend Apple Tree Cottage to others.
Fantastic hotel and fantastic surroundings. Excellent breakfast with perfect service.
Everything was superb and we really recommend a stay here.
Only problem was that we only booked one night. We would have liked to stay longer.
Well maintained, beds were comfortable, kitchen was well equipped. Location was good, just 15 minutes’ drive from Keswick and very close to Bassenthwaite lake which is not busy. Games room is good - we played table tennis
Food was great: both breakfast and dinner were well up the standard we were expecting. The hotel staff were very responsive to our request for a room change. The location is just fabulous. And the hotel is very quiet.
Absolutely gorgeous old coaching inn in a secluded, peaceful spot in the Lake District. Dog friendly. Loved the old bar and beautiful gardens. The staff, (especially Tom and Sam) were brilliant. Food was delicious!!
Lovely cottage in central Bassenthwaite. A short walk from the local pub and amazing scenery out of each window. Comfy beds, nice shower, clean and tidy. Keys were in the box as expected, checked in with no issues.
location was very good and not too far to Keswick if driving but not if you were disabled as very hilly wild life was very good as we had red squirrels in garden every day
