Beautiful place to stay. Views are amazing as well as the decor.
A traditional East Sussex inn in the South Downs, Ye Olde Smugglers Inne dates back to the 14th century and retains plenty of its original character.

Lovely personal welcome to a really charming old English pub with rooms. The landlady couldn't do enough for us. The room was beautiful and very comfortable for 3 people. She was especially accommodating about our early start the following morning and left us out some breakfast to take away with us to eat later which we really appreciated

Good choice but my husband ordered the kipper was tiny. Only had 2 breakfasts so not much else to tell. Second day full English was good.

What an absolutely lovely historic hotel, a hidden gem. The location, staff, and breakfast are all fabulous. The bed was comfy, the room (bigger than I expected!) was cosy and clean with tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water on offer, the bath and shower were both good pressure and temp, and the staff were so incredibly attentive, welcoming, and happy to answer my (many) questions. It's quiet, rustic, homely, and very good value for money. I would definitely return here and stay for even longer next time.
Located in the heart of Hailsham, The Crown Hotel offers a vibrant cafe, traditional bar and modern bedrooms, and is only a 20-minute drive from Eastbourne.

Dinner was amazing!!
Pub was beautiful
Town was gorgeous!
Suite was amazing
Alfriston is very old , historic and scenic. The George pub is from 1397 and there are other old buildings, churches and interesting places to explore. There is a fantastic bookstore, filled with great ideas as well as books. There are many walks in the valley or you can go down to the Downs of Seaford. It would be a good base for relaxing and walking but helpful if you had a car.

It is a brilliant slightly isolated location which if you live in London must be entirely refreshing.
Staff were helpful, hardworking and went beyond my expectations to ensure we had a pleasant stay.

Alfriston is a delightful village with several historic properties. The streets are very narrow, and it is not a good idea to try to drive through the village. There are two car parks to the north of the village, one on each side of the main approach road, and cars can be parked here, (£1.40 for two hours) provided there is sufficient space. Alfriston Clergy House (National Trust) is well worth a visit, and the very large parish church, dedicated to St Andrew, is known as the Cathedral of the Downs.

Alfriston is a delightful village with several pubs and a few small shops. Lovely walks by the river and on the Downs. National Trust Clergy House is worth a visit (the first property they bought). There is a vineyard (Rathfinney) on the edge of the village. We had good meals at The George Inn and at the Dean's Place Hotel and also at various country pubs in nearby villages.

Sadly the accommodation required urgent renovation, dirty carpets and cheap furniture. Bathroom was modern, clean and well presented although the water pressure in the shower was too low unlike the basin which was too high. We had one disappointing and revolting meal, which was poorly presented and served. The staff were generally helpful but the management failed to be ‘fully’ apologetic for their shortcomings. On the other hand breakfast met expectations. The mature gardens were in need urgent attention by an educated gardener. The general fabric of the hotel was tired in the public and general rooms. The hotel showed a lot of wear & tear, which was a ashame ! Overall the 2 night stay was marred by a poorly maintained room and one bad meal. A beautiful ‘manor’ hotel has been ruined by a ‘modernisation’ lacking in sympathy for historical fabric just for a ‘wedding’ venue; I found the rating of 4 Star was far too generous.

We have visited Many times and will be returning.our room spotless and had been cleaned thoroughly as it's a dog friendly hotel we were concerned not being a dog owner. We
Needn't have worried.
For hikers arriving after a 25 km slog along the South Downs Way, the Inne is a veritable paradise. We started sitting down with a pint of good Sussex ale to refuel our weary legs before ascending the stairs to our room. The room
was spacious and clean and with good beds. Then we had a wonderful meal (with Sussex ale) in the charming pub. Alfriston is a beautiful and quiet town, and we slept like babies. We felt welcome and have no complaints!
Comfortable bed. Spacious, modern bathroom with large walk-in shower. Large drawers/storage if staying long enough to unpack. Little porch with 2 chairs and table, nice to sit and briefly relax. Large outdoor terrace with tables for afternoon tea/drinks. Large indoor guest lounge space. Daily papers available. Lots of free parking on-site. Lots of nice walking from hotel. Close to Birling Gap and Seven Sisters.
There was a mix-up with the reservation between Booking.com and the hotel. I originally booked just the Saturday and later changes it to Friday and Saturday. However when we arrived there was no record of the Friday booking but the Saturday booking was in place. The hotel very kindly rang around and found us a room for the Friday. I can't speak too highly of the staff.
Lovely building in a great location right by Alfriston with beautiful views. Grounds of the hotel were stunning and we had a really good walk along the river in the morning, right from the hotel.
Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Evening meal was delicious (and cocktails!). Very useful to have a dog friendly hotel as we couldn’t get ours into kennels for the weekend.
The secret cottage is beautifully decorated and perfectly equipped. It was really spacious, perfect for a group of four. It's right in the centre of Alfriston, which is a really good base for visiting the Rathfinney Wine estate, Brighton, Eastbourne, Seaford and the whole South downs area. Great communication from the owner in the run up to the holiday and during.
Located in the heart of Alfriston, next to the village store. Beautifully converted one-bedroom cottage with all modern conveniences, whilst retaining its unique charm. The owner thoughtfully leaves her homemade chocolates as a welcome gift.
Lovely, friendly small hotel, offering a personal touch. Excellent restaurant serving top quality food. Breakfast cooked to order. Nothing was too much trouble for the helpful staff. Beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Alfriston is a beautiful village with plenty of pubs and cafes. The owner was lovely and very accommodating. Quaint room with a big comfy bed and everything you need. Breakfast is included. Would stay again thank you!
The variety of food at breakfast was excellent. Unusual items such as pancakes with several different toppings. All the food at the hotel was well cooked and generous helpings. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
The hotel is set in a lovely location, the communal areas are extremely pleasant and delightful, the breakfast was excellent. The bar staff were attentive and their service was over and beyond what was expected.
the character of being in an old English Inn and Pub. the staff was great and the restaurant had a nice dinner menu. a great location in the heart of the small village with great hiking close by.
Great location in the center of Alfriston, which is a lovely town. Charming pub below the rooms. Excellent food at the pub. Room is clean and bed comfortable.
