Pleasant attractive town - while certainly pretty it doesn't suffer from being excessively touristic. It has several cafes - nothing fancy but you can get a cold beer and a coffee for a reasonable price. Market once a week. Not a lot of options for eating - the Creperie des Ramparts is ok - a fairly average creperie but in a good location by the river. Couple of boulangeries with good bread. Charcuterie, deli etc. Medium-sized supermarket has all the basic stuff and cheaper fuel. The nearby lake is great for children with kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, pedalo rentals etc. There are numerous walking and mountain bike (VTT) trails in the area. A couple of GRs. Also river kayaking (though didn't try it). All in all a great location for an outdoor holiday.

Treignac has plenty of parking and is close to the beautiful...
Treignac has plenty of parking and is close to the beautiful Lac de Bariousses which was fairly quiet. There is a restaurant/bar by the lake and an excellent restaurant at Hotel du Lac. Pédalo and canoe hire, childrens play area on beach and table tennis on the beach. Special sand buggy pedalos available to give access to lake to people with reduced mobility. Toilet facilities at the café.
Boules area for pétanque. Nice areas along the tree lined beach for picnics. Free parking.
There is a walk from the Barrage (the lake is a hydro electric dam) which is part of the Pilgrim's walk on the route de Compostelle.
The top end of the lake is probably better for fishing, further in from the road, good picnic area and shade in trees. Accessible for people of reduced mobility to fish too. A stunning, quiet location.
Very good hotel just outside of Treignac with modern decorations.
Excellent restaurant with a compact menu concentrating on local dishes well prepared and nicely presented.
Exceptional breakfast, even for early departure with fresh local products - no industrial croissants here.
It's quite a way from the motorway, but worth the detour.
Trish and Eamon could not have been more charming and helpful. They have made an amazing job of restoring the building and turning it into a gorgeous boutique hotel with so many unique features. You will not be disappointed.
We loved our stay at Treignac Place...a very warm welcome from our host, chocolate and wine in the fridge on our arrival and lots of local information given that made our stay enjoyable and memorable.
