Perpignan is located at the foothills of the magnificent Pyrenees and is a perfect base for sightseeing whilst travelling along the coast of France and Spain.
Along the banks of River Basse is The Castille, which is a 14th-century red-brick fortress and one of the main sights in Perpignan. Other historic landmarks that are worth a visit are the Perpignan Cathedral, 13th century Palace of the Kings of Majorca, and the François Arago Liceum.
Perpigna’s picturesque streets and walkways are lined with a variety of cafés and restaurants. A notable area is the Place de la République, home to the Théâtre municipal and surrounded by several shops, bars and boutiques.
Booking.com offers a selection of accommodation options in Perpignan and surrounding cities like Canet-Plage and Canet.

I could have spent all day at the Palace and another exploring the array of very high quality shops in the lovely winding streets. The cathedral is worth a visit for those interested in architecture, history, etc. or who just appreciate the remarkable efforts humans put into their religious monuments. It is an active religious site, so proper dress and respectful behavior are requested. A stroll along the canal was very pleasant. I did not have enough time to do any of it justice. I walked everywhere. Ask hotel staff which way to go to the palace: GPS doesn't know there is only one entrance and will take you to the outside wall only, FAR from the entrance.

Perpignan is a lively place, cleaner and neater than some other southern French cities. The historical sites are not particularly thrilling, but it's pleasant to wander around the old town and there is always something going on - the annual festival of photojournalism while we were there. The beach resorts of Canet and Sainte-Marie are within easy reach.
Recommended excursions: Céret, Collioure (each a cheap 40-min bus ride away if you can figure out the eccentric timetable) + the Red Train along the Fenouillèdes valley west of Perpignan - with very knowledgeable guides! Details from Tourist Office

Like many visitors to the town, we were drawn to the town by the chance to watch the Catalans Dragons rugby league club play at Stade Gilbert Brutus. However, there is so much more that the town has to offer travellers.
The town centre is crammed with beautiful architecture, quirky shops, bars and cafes and lots of history. Meanwhile, for just a euro you can catch a forty minute bus down to the coast (we chose Collioure). A brilliant trip whether visiting with family or friends. We will definitely be back soon.

Historical castle with old town.
Historical castle with old town. Quiet provincial French town with an interesting looking medieval heart that is undergoing restoration.
We walked around Perpignan, well signposted. The locals are friendly and helpful. We ate at a restaurant close to the train station the food was tasty and reasonably priced. The Pizza place close to town was a bit more expensive but food was tasty and staff helpful. The dinner at The Steakhouse was food but quite expensive again the staff were helpful and friendly.
The host was courteous and kept us updated as we were en route to the property of all needed information.
The appartment was perfectly located as we were passing through Perpignan only for the night. We were able to walk to the historic Centre within a few and enjoy the Christmas market.
There was parking on the property.
The most enjoyable aspect was the apartment was quiet. Great for a good night's rest.
The cottage is well-equipped, spacious and quiet and in a very convenient location to reach the centre of Perpignan on foot and also for public transport. Sebastian was really helpful and gave us useful tips for our stay, e.g. recommendations for beaches and other attractions to visit and how to get there. Perpignan is a great city and we also enjoyed exploring the coast and discovering 'le pays catalan'.
The hotel was easy to find and had safe parking for my motorcycle. The receptionist was very helpful and spoke excellent English. This being France, every place to eat within walking distance was closed (it being Monday). However, the hotel sold pizzas-and it was one of the best I have had in a long, long time. Totally unexpected, and glad everywhere close by was closed, otherwise I would have missed out.
Compact room with comfortable bed shower and separate toilet. We went to the city centre which seems quite nice with lots of places to eat and lots of take away options. A short drive from a large beach which we were able to take our dog for a run. looks like it would be a great place to visit in the summer. There is a microwave available for guests to use at any time. Lots of places to park.
A hotel full of French character, situated in an excellent location. The beds were so comfy and the hosts made us feel so welcome. I've been travelling around the South of France and the night that we stayed here was the best nights sleep we had! Our room had a huge bathroom and a large outside area. The breakfast was great too.
Nice first floor room overlooking the park; we had booked a privilege room. Option of an express breakfast rather than the full buffet. Off road parking (under the hotel), however, there are limited spaces and reservation would be essential. Very convenient for exploring the centre of Perpignan and the park opposite the hotel.
The hotel is very close to the city centre. It is well located. The staff are very friendly and smiling.
The breakfast is very good. There's plenty of choice, and the staff go out of their way to make sure nothing is missing.
The icing on the cake is the play area for children (and adults), where you can relax for a while.
The location of the hotel is ideal. In fact, you can easily see the hotel from the main train station, so you can check in quickly upon your arrival into Perpignan. The room is comfortable. The staff are friendly. The price for breakfast is not excessive, and it is buffet style. The room is comfortable.
This hotel is very well located and near to the city centre. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant is very good, although the menu didn't have many choices. The bathroom was clean and nice. The laundry service was very good. Breakfast was very good also.... it was served on a nice shady terrace.
Great homely apartment for a short stay in Perpignan. Looked well equipped for longer stays. Tea, coffee and water left for guests which was a welcome touch. Nice balcony for sitting out. Fab location within strolling distant of restaurants and easy walk to Perpignan’s very attractive old town area.
This is a wonderful place in the city centre of Perpignan. WOW. A very inspiring vintage interior, great garden, beautiful rooms, delicious breakfast a very warm welcome by Gregory.... a shame we only could stay 1 night.
The location is just great, and the decor of the place is pretty seventies retro. It has a lot of windows and so it was easy to air out. And it was France's national music night, so just fantastic.
Amazing guesthouse with excellent hosts and a delicious breakfast. Free and secure parking is a great addition also. Would definitely stay there again on a visit back to Perpignan!
Fabulous location! Comfy bed. Very friendly front desk staff. Steps away from fantastic dining and shopping in the centre-ville of lovely Perpignan! Merci, Hotel de France!
The hotel staff are very kind and helpful. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The location is near the train station and just a short walk to the main sites
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The made many recommendations that helped us experience Perpignan in a way that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise
Very well-looked-after small family-run hotel between railway station and centre of Perpignan. First-class breakfast with home-made local specialities.
