Ah what a surprise this was! One of loveliest places I’ve stayed. Good atmosphere, extremely peaceful. The village was tiny and in the middle of the week quiet and very picturesque. I booked for one but was upgraded to a huge room, kind of an apartment, nicely decorated and got a beautiful garden for myself to sit and write for two days. The restaurant was excellent, lovely breakfast with pretty dishes and flowers everywhere and a possibility to book good quality lunch/dinner.

Chez Gabriel et Sophie, hotel in Pérouges

Located in Pérouges, the recently renovated Chez Gabriel et Sophie offers accommodation 36 km from Part-Dieu Train Station and 36 km from Groupama Stadium.

If you are looking for a unique apartment location, this is definitely the place to go. It is right in the beautiful little medieval town of Pèrouges. As we walked up the little cobbled street to the door, I imagined the footsteps of the multitude of people that have stepped those same steps for centuries ☺️. Inside, the apartment was lovely, beautifully decorated with everything you needed, a coffee maker was a great plus and we'd been left the essentials. The shower was excellent, and the bed was really comfortable, and the pillows were nice, the walls were so thick too, it just was lovely. Of an evening it was so peaceful. It was a nice experience to be able to walk around a medieval city without lots of people being there, and it is small, so easily walked around. We met a few cats along the way and all were very friendly, perfect for cat lovers like us. The distant view from the terrace was so tranquil, especially as it faces east, so we were able to enjoy the early morning sun for our breakfast. We also had a visit from two beautiful cats, so we spent some time playing with them. Sophie had made this place very nice, the only thing extra that would improve it would be a couple of little chairs and a small table inside the apartment for when it's too cold for the terrace, or the mosquitos are out, but that's just a wish list item, it doesn't spoil the stay without them. There is even a mosquito net on the window so that you can keep it open, that is a nice idea. Thank you Sophie for such a lovely stay 😍.

The 'city' has been maintained in 'original' condition.

The 'city' has been maintained in 'original' condition. The many artisinal shops well illustrate the range of skills within the village as do the boulangeries and restaurants providing a satisfying range of fare including the traditional galettes. Tours are available with guides if necessary. The village is small and can be adequately covered in half a day. It is very well worth visiting! There are a number of other historical sights within relatively close driving distance of the village which could make it a good base to explore the surrounding area as well.

I enjoyed my visit to Perouges very much.

I enjoyed my visit to Perouges very much. It is a beautiful town, completely medieval. There were already tourists in January. I think there will be many more in the spring and summer. I would recommend anyone wantng to stay in the old town to make reservations well ahead, months ahead for the high season.

This was a stunning old medieval village, small enough to walk around and explore thoroughly in less than a day. Staying there was like stepping back in time. And we had the streets to ourselves in the morning and evening.

A fabulous ancient walled town with lots of tiny shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars, and it's all on your doorstep if you are staying at this hotel. Once you're checked-in and you've parked your car in the hotel's private car park, everything is walking distance - the streets are all cobbled so a pair of comfortable shoes is advisable. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was superb - the atmosphere is fantastic and everything is totally unspoilt. This really is a totally unique hotel and staying there is an experience in itself, and I can't recommend it highly enough. I suppose the only word of warning I would make is that the town and this hotel may not be the best for anyone with mobility issues - cobbled streets and tightly winding spiral staircases may cause difficulties. Having said that, the staff are all extremely helpful and it would be worth asking them what facilities are available.

A wonderful medieval village to discover for a day visit.

A wonderful medieval village to discover for a day visit. Well worth the journey from Annecy. Sturdy shoes a must to cope with the cobblestones (Not suitable for wheelchairs or prams). The museum worth the entrance fee just for the view from the tower! Lots of craft shops for paper pottery etc

The room (Ducs) was exceptional - even the antechamber to the bedroom was bigger than some hotel rooms, and it was beautifully furnished. The location could not have been better for exploring the lovely old town. Although the town was very busy when we arrived in the afternoon (there was some event on involving old cars), the crowds disappeared by the evening.

The staff are a credit to the hotel . Nothing was too much trouble . The pool was a great bonus as we were there during the heatwave . Very easy , secure parking , The rooms are not luxurious , but this is to be expected given the price & star rating of the hotel , they were however very clean & adequate for a stopover .
