A stately city just inland from France’s Mediterranean coast, Montpellier is capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, known for its wine production.
Place du Peyrou, the city’s highest point, offers excellent views and has a wide boulevard down the middle of its park. Its west end has a triumphal arch overlooking a pool and on the other side is a magnificent, 18th-century aqueduct running as far as the eye can see. To the north are France’s oldest botanical gardens, maintained by Montpellier University, one of the world’s oldest universities.
Rue du Bras de Fer is a narrow, medieval street with a secret sight through almost every portico, and another must-see is Place de la Comédie. This wide, pedestrian square is lined with street cafes and impressive buildings including the 19th-century opera house. Streets leading off contain high-end boutiques, while cheaper Montpellier shopping options are Le Polygone shopping centre and the huge Odysseum leisure and shopping complex.
Other Montpellier sights include the 14th-century cathedral and the Antigone district with its grand Neo-Classical architecture. Also worth a look is the Musée Fabre art museum, and speaking of art, keep an eye out for the brightly decorated trams.
Before leaving your Montpellier accommodation to go to Méditerranée Airport near the Cote d’Azur, sample some local seafood. The oysters are amazing!
Montpellier is a nice medium size city. I visited it during May when the weather was warm and sunny. The city center is lovely, it has many historic attractions in great condition!| Moreover, the tram system is really useful and brings you to the beach and the main commercial centers/aquarium.

Montpellier is a lovely city to visit for a couple of days.
Montpellier is a lovely city to visit for a couple of days. They seem to host lots of events there (there was a BMX championship on the day we visited). There's also lots to see in the old part of town. Seems friendly and safe (but we didnt go out after 7pm - just because we stayed in the hotel).

Vibrant city with a Mediterranean vibe, lots to see and do.
Vibrant city with a Mediterranean vibe, lots to see and do. Excellent Tourist Information Centre that recommended a brilliant walking tour (in English). Loved a free photography exhibition (with English captions!) in the Pavillon Populaire near the TIC. I went to a concert at the Opera Comique and enjoyed good food but, sadly, no time for the Museum Fabre.
For a change of scene, I took a train to the coastal resort of Sete - well worth 12 euros!

The historical centre is quite small and easy to visit walking from place de la Comédie. Very good possibilities to travel with the trams. A lot of restaurants of all kinds and at very affordable rates.
Parc Du Peyrou and the aqueduct is a must see. The cathedral St Pierre is to be seen, inside as well as outside. Botanical garden is very well organised and counts numerous trees and plants.

Beautiful city.
Beautiful city. Lots of "old Europe" feel to it - tiny winding streets, quaint shops, numerous cafes. Very easy to walk but it also has a good tram system. It poured rain on my main day there, alas! I'm looking for places to retire to and Montpellier definitely ranks on it.

I filled my time very happily with a couple of excursions and a trip to Lette but could have done it in six days rather than seven. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Public transport is now free! Frequent trams take you to the outskirts, then buses for onward travel.
Train fares vary with each departure, some cheap and some can match British ones. There were a couple of delays on trains, it is a bit of a wild area and one was delayed for three hours or more as a train had collided with a wild pig!
We stayed in Montpellier for a night on our drive from Barcelona to the French Riviera. Staff was exceptional, Jose in particular who welcomed us was extremely helpful.
The hotel was a few minutes away from the centre that was bustling with residents and tourists alike. It did clear out on Sunday when it rained but It didn’t stop us from exploring the city! We didn’t have umbrellas but were fortunate that the Polygone mall - which is en route to the centre - was open on a Sunday and could purchase umbrellas to keep us dry.
We loved everything!! The location was perfect for us, we were visiting my son who is studying abroad in Montpellier. Everything was perfectly clean and comfortable and Pierre was a wonderful host. The breakfast was amazing and his home is simply beautiful. I cannot recommend this place enough and if I find myself in Montpellier again I would absolutely love to stay here again!! Please do yourself a favor and stay here, you will not regret it at all!! Merci beacoup Pierre!!
Luxurious hotel with amazing rooms, our deluxe room had a circular bath in the main room big enough for at least 2 people and a separate shower room and a king size bed and 2 balconies. The hotel is situated at the start of Montpellier old town which was perfect. The room had a spectacular view of Comédie square and the room was quiet with no external noise from other rooms or from outside. Well worth the cost and we would definitely use again.
The staff was extremely friendly, prone to help. The rooms were clean, bed was comfortable. The room was oriented to the back-yard, thus pretty quiet. The hotel offers typical French small breakfast as well as rich breakfast I normally need. The dining room was newly renovated in style a terrace. The place was very close to the Montpellier University, thus for me location was perfect. The tram stop was very close.
Perfect for our stop over on the way to Spain. 10 minute drive into the old town and reception staff gave us great directions to parking relatively easy to get to under the centre of town. Family rooms we had were perfect for our stay. Kitchen, fridge, microwave. Parking on street in front of hotel free and patrolled overnight. Lovely view overlooking old chateau. Friendly and helpful staff.
The hotel is in an excellent location, we only stayed 3 days but went to Sete one day and the beach another, both easy on public transport.
The hotel rooms are fresh and decorated nicely. The staff were lovely and super helpful. Montpellier old town is a great place for a wander and on the doorstep. Tea and cake in the afternoon was a nice touch.
Probably the worst hotel I have stayed at in my entire life. It was more like Alcatraz than a hotel. I appreciate it is a budget overnight stay but was still Euros 93 still not bargain basement. Food was inedible and nowhere else to eat as on an industrial estate near Montpellier airport. Time to pull these hotels down and start again - awful!
The staff was very nice and helpful. I don't speak French very well but they were completely capable of communicating in English. The hotel is located in a very nice area of Montpellier, everything is in walking distance. Yet, it is very quiet, because cars can't actually reach the hotel, because the streets are too narrow.
The hotel is located in front of Montpellier Renfe Station . All staff are very friendly and helpful with smiles all the times.
They were treated well and gave me a wonderful time. Hotel has a patio where can relax . I will be there if I am going to have a chance to visit near future.
Thank you for all.
Out of our entire trip through Italy and France, this hotel surprisingly had the most comfortable beds! Both pillows and bed were the right amount of give. The location is perfect for exploring the city since it is on the doorstep to a large pedestrian plaza in the heart of the city.
Great Location . Perfect to walk to most places around Montpellier. Well quipped . Plenty of eating options around the hotel. Overall a nice place to stay if u are looking at Hotel apartments in Montpellier. Tram station right outside the main entrance.
The hotel was beautiful. Great location within walking distance to the train station, and very central to shopping and restaurants. Breakfast was also a highlight and the best we had in France.
We stayed in five hotels over two weeks in France, and this was absolutely the best: a great large spotlessly clean room with balcony, very helpful staff, and an awesome choice for breakfast.
Quirky modernised hotel with lots of updated technology - not easy to use. Comfortable and walking distance to centre of Montpellier. Quite as not fully open for the season.
The room was ok, had big bad, nice bathroom. The hotel is located 7 mins from Montpellier Sant-Roche train station, and also at the entrance of the old town of Montpellier.
