We arrived 6 hrs after our designated time of arrival because of flooding, storms and detours amidst traffic chaos to a relaxed, happy and accommodating staff that made us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble.
The service, amenities and attention to detail is without a doubt unsurpassable.
Breakfast was delicious.

Friendly reception from the host. perfectly adequate rooms, typically French old hotel, sloping floors, comfortable beds, very dated but good fun for an overnight stop. Great bar immediately next door - essential after a long drive! Le Patron gave us great advice on where to eat in the evening.

This beautifully restored chateau was warm and comfortable, with a superb breakfast, including freshly baked bread, in the morning. Though small, the room was well appointed, with tea and coffee available, and the en-suite shower room was perfect. We would go out of our way to stay again if passing nearby. Madame speaks English, too.

Second floor apartment true, but when you open the front door there is another flight of stairs up to the apartment itself. Odd area but actually very close to the shops and restaurants.

The price of the apartment is very reasonable. You have everything you need, and it is quite spacious. The check in and out were also very easy.
Loved the medieval part of town. A great surprise was the Museum of music - well worth a visit and one of the few places open on a Sunday.
Had a really great lunch at Bistrot Saint Jean - one of the few places open on a Sunday.

Very little to see in Montlucon itself apart from a world-class music museum and a war museum. The old quarter is interesting in passing and facilities for visitors to the town are generally well-considered albeit public toilets are limited. Eating out can be disappointing.

A medium sized walkable city with much to enjoy! The train station is within 4 minutes walk from the city center which offers endless shops, grocery stores like Monoprix, restaurants, places to visit like the chateaux straight from the station and the beautiful river! The cities best attributes are that it is walkable and everything is within reach. The people are kind and not stressed out like many major cities. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely return!

One website referred to this hotel as "modest"; this is true, but it was perfectly adequate for a one-night stay. It's in a pleasant part of town, which, despite being opposite the station, is quiet at night, The staff were helpful, and gave us useful information about sights and restaurants. Parking on the metered spaces is free from 6.00pm to 9.00am, and there seems to be a small car park at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was fine.
The hotel is adjacent to the railway station but was very quiet (other than the sparrows outside). The reception was very helpful and the room comfortable. Parking was free overnight or all day if you can find a spot in the road outside. Plenty of restaurants locally and in the medieval village. Worthy of noting that most restaurants close on Monday’s.
The place was clean, beautifully decorated and well equipped. The place is also centrally placed within walking distance from Montluçon's city center. It is very easy to park in front of the building.
I cannot fault B&B hotels. They are generally clean and tidy, the staff are polite and helpful and you know what you are going to get for breakfast. Would use this hotel again and recommend it.
