You have to be aware that this is a conference hotel, the type of place that businesses choose to take their teams for "offsite meetings" where they talk about <insert dry topic here> and have bonding experiences in the bar. As such, it's a hive of activity with lots of people holding ad hoc meetings in the public spaces, such as the bar and breakfast room. As a 'tourist', you feel somewhat second class to the bulk of their business clientele. The room was clean and fairly spartan, but with all of the amenities needed to spend a couple of nights, as we did. The staff were all very helpful and attentive and we got the impression that they worked very hard to make the place as welcoming as they could within the circumstances. The building is impressive, with obviously cloisters and a large quad in the middle, plus it's right next door to the old Roman amphitheatre, which is a must see.

What makes this hotel so great are the staff. They were so helpful and did everything to make easy. They were happy to store bikes over night and also to store suitcases while we went bike riding for 5 days. And although one side of the hotel is close to a main road overpass the double glazing meant no noise (and we have someone very sensitive to noise in our party). Would highly recommend.
