The City of Popes
Located in Southern France, Avignon is the largest capital of the department of Vaucluse. Classified as a UNESCO world Heritage Site, the charming city centre is home to the palace of the popes, Rocher des Doms, and the bridge of Avignon.
The historic Palais des Papes is one of the most significant medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. Set within a square with the same name, the Papal Palace is an important tourist attraction where you can see the pope’s private chambers and frescoes by Matteo Giovannetti.
Le Pont d’Avignon was built in the Middle Ages and, according to the legend, a young shepherd called Benezet was inspired by angels to build the bridge. The children’s song "Sur Le Pont D'Avignon" is now famous all over the world.
The beautiful gardens of Rocher des Doms are ideal for a promenade or picnic. Featuring a large pond, swans, ducks and lush vegetation, this place is perfect for relaxing moments. From the top, you can enjoy the views of the Rhône.
You can stay in one of Avignons' hotels, apartments and B&Bs that Booking.com offers. Situated in the village of Montfavet, Avignon-Caumont Airport is only 8 km away from Avignon.

A wonderful place to hang around.
After sunset it might feel a bit uncomfortable, however I did not feel particularly unsafe at any point.

Great history and narrow lovely streets to walk through.
Great history and narrow lovely streets to walk through. Visit to Popes old digs and the old bridge were great. Natural museum was free, however it took only 15 minutes to see the collection. Restaurant’s and food there were great as well. Could do without all of the beggars on the street, some who were obviously drunk and quite aggressive constantly asking us for money. Carry some coins just in case you get cornered and feel threatened as it’s the easiest way out of it without risk.

Avignon once was a beautiful old town, rich in history and lovely to walk around is. These days, however, the city is horribly dilapidated; at least two out of every ten shops is closed forever and their storefronts are covered in graffiti.
Another deception is the fact that it is very hard to find affordable restaurants serving French food, since the centre of town is filled with tourist traps serving pizza's, couscous and similar imported dishes.

Fascinating to see the historic buildings and French people...
Fascinating to see the historic buildings and French people actually live there! I felt like it was a movie decor! It was quiet at night, we slept really well and our room was super quaint (Au Cœur des Papes). Lovely wood shutters to close at night so the sun didn’t wake you. Amazing 4 nights, good food and not too pricey! We visited the famous bridge of course and the palace but we also rented a scooter to go visit the countryside and vineyards in the Château Neuf du Pap région. Unforgettable 💕
Hotel is very conveniently located and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful! Many thanks to Claude for keeping my luggage safe when I checked out. I didn't have breakfast there, but the dining facilities appeared very comfortable and tidy. Avignon is a beautiful, friendly and charming city, and the Hôtel Le Bristol was a lovely complement to my stay. I enjoyed hearing the church bells from Chapelle Saint-Louis behind the hotel.
Quiet area with a pool and outdoor cafe style breakfast. We arranged for dinner after a long travel day and a gourmet meal was served. Breakfasts were great and included pastries, home made yogurt, made to order eggs and coffee and espresso. Luc provided a dinner recommendation in town that was one of our best meals in France. Overall excellent host and very accommodating to our family of five.
It was a wonderful time,a very beautiful little hostel, I would disctibe it. Simple and nice.
The Pool is great and I had a good time. The staff and the ppl that take care of everything are real fantastic.
It was absolutely a fantastic trip.
It s not a luxury place. Every one that likes it simple, should book it.
Avignon is a beautiful city... interesting Place
The location is about 6 minutes of work from the train station which is acceptable. One plus is that there is a nearby wall-gate of the city near the hotel so that we dont have to go to the train station everytime. The staff offers us the map of Avignon and is very friendly, will be here again iwhen visiting Avignon.
best place ever. very generous amenities in cognac, coffee, candy. spotlessly clean. very beautiful suite hotel. great location. would recommend as the best solution for avignon. amazing host with parking outside avignon, at his private villa : weird at first but great solution, free and real easy.
The Regina is an excellent location within the walled city of Avignon, very close to the Pope's Palace, restaurants, shopping, etc. It is an old hotel, and so the rooms are small, etc. But the staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean. We would highly recommend it.
The room was old. Very old. The bathroom was old and there were slight traces of red mold around the edges of the bath. The matrass was a cheapish one, not the 'normal' box spring style that is found in most hotels. This has to be the worst Best Western that I have stayed in :(
This idyllic location was the perfect setting for our visit to Avignon and the area. It was an amazing hotel with so much history to help us celebrate our 30 th anniversary. The staff was excellent. Special shout out to Lucas. A great staff member.
Excellent location, very clean and cozy. Extremely friendly host, always helping with any questions we had (that also speaks English which we found out is quite rare in our journey in South France). One of the best value for money choices.
Very nice boutiquey (is that a word?) type hotel in an excellent Avignon location. Nicely appointed rooms, great rooftop bar which was rarely used by others, and close to town/train station/bars & restuarants/supermarket etc.
Hotel was lovely. While not in the heart of the old town, highly convenient if you are using Avignon as your base while you visit Provence. Hotel room is clean and relatively large, plus free parking!
Lovely owner who accommodated us very well. Lovely rooms, quaint decoration, thick curtains that kept the light out well. We stayed for two additional nights as we loved the hotel and Avignon.
Large modern hotel, with car parking underneath. Just outside the walls of Avignon, so handy for visiting the centre. Located next to the station as well.
