We love Alcala. The accommodation was spacious and well maintained in the most part. The staff in the office were delightful and well-informed. There is plenty of off the road parking. A visit to the Cueva Diablo, the troglodyte museum, is a must.

Los Olivos apartments was a great place to stay, spacious and very clean and comfortable and a short walk to restaurants. Also had parking and was dog friendly. Walk to Castille was about 30 minutes and would up through the houses built into the cliff. Very nice restaurant with great food and wine near the river. Lovely place for a few days - lots of activities on the water and in the gorge if you fancy too.

Today we hired a car and travelled one hour to Alcalá del Júcar which is one of the most amazing towns we have ever seen. It is located on a hill with the gorge formed by the Júcar river at its feet. It is one of those undiscovered gems with limited transport to. I researched it and so glad we took the effort to come here.
The photos and videos do not do justice to how beautiful it truly is!
Its narrow and steep streets and its well-preserved houses which are built into the cliffs ascend towards the castle, from where the most magnificent views of the gorge can be seen.
The bridge over the river, which is of Roman origin and was rebuilt in the 18th century, offers a beautiful view and gives access to the Cathedral which I missed once again because it was siesta time. Gees….can’t these guys stay awake for a while!
Natural caves, some of which have been turned into inns, are abundant in the area. They naturally maintain the same temperature throughout the year. So much like Coober Pedy!
I can totally recommend this place to you all.
We also picked up the most gorgeous apartment with an open fireplace.

A lovely village in a stunning setting.
A lovely village in a stunning setting. There are cave houses, a church and a small castle to visit, along with woodlands to explore and river walkways. There are a number of restaurants and bars in the village but surprisingly few, if any, restaurants were open at night when we visited (mid-June). We drove slightly out of the village (you need to brave the hairpin bends!) and ate at El Mirador restaurant, lovely food and amazing views over Alcala del Jucar.

Alcalá del Júcar is a hillside town with a castle & tower at the top. It's very picturesque from down below at the river. After sunset, they illuminate the castle and church and the streetlights dot the hillside. The "caves" are their special attraction: Cuevas del Diablo and Cuevas de Masagó y del Duende. The entry fee is cheap (2.50 or 3 Euros) and includes a drink at the bar at the other end of hillside after walking through a long tunnel. Very curious and the bar rooms and views from the far side are worth the cheap cost. Apart from the caves, there really aren't any bars or restaurants (one of each, maybe) in the town itself - which we found surprising. The streets are narrow and some are quite steep. The views of the valley below and the castle visit are also worth the hike.

A beautiful small town set within a valley that boasts good restaurants and bars as well as some superb scenery. If you like walking then you are in for a treat with a number of great walks up and around the valley. The castle was a nice visit but make sure it is open as it is closed off season, however still a good visit as walkable from the town.

location and size of room. very clean and got a room with a view of castle and had a fridge to. staff can’t do enough to help even though speaking no English it didn’t matter. manager was so kind and caring. breakfast was huge and so much choice. bed was super king and very comfortable. brilliant village and hotel is worth staying at. we would stay again and fully recommend we had a balcony and recommend requesting a high room with a view.
Great place to stay, a few minutes of easy walk to Alcala del Jucar; at night there are mountain goats on the trail. Impressed!
Nice rooms, pet friendly.
Parking around the hotel was sufficient.
