Gorgeous, massive monastery on top of hill above town. Simple, undecorated room. Most comfortable beds we’ve slept in on our 10 days of travel. Pleasant, helpful staff. Lovely, pastoral walk past the monastery and then left at soccer fields down into farmed valley below. Intersects with dirt road that is a longer distance walk/bike/horse path thru valley. Check out QRS code on benches at that intersection.
We serendipitously arrived the evening of an organ concert. That was impressive!

This is a gem of a hotel. It’s not really a conventional hotel at all but a hundreds of years old monastery nestled on a hill overlooking large expanses of fields and ponds. My room was magnificent (ask for Bishop Zimmers room) with sweeping view, architecture to die for and plenty of walking paths and an on premises restaurant. (Closed Mondays). It’s VERY quiet and this huge property is 15 minutes walk down into the village below. A real find!
The environment and restaurant were great. A neat little hotel on top of a hill and part of a Cloister. Very picturesque place :) Can easily recommend for staying for an extended period to enjoy the small town of Vilshofen.
