Went to Holzwickede on Schutzenfest weekend and had an amazing time, the whole town is involved but make sure you're there on Schutzenfest Monday as it's the best day and the last, also went to Schone flote, the outdoor swimming pool which is fab , downtown Dortmund is only a train ride away and the station is 5 mins walk from hotel Lohenstein, all in all, a great wkend
i loved everything about this place! big room, everything super clean, nice bathroom with a bathtub, very quiet, there is even a coffee machine in the room, and a fridge full of drinks. not to say that the location is perfect if you have a flight from Dortmund Airport. definitely coming back. and the owners of this place are such nice people!
The train was late, so I came to hotel quarter past 10 pm, and I have written this to personal.
They answered me, will not waiting for me.
So, I came to hotel, nobody there, nobody answered my calls.. So I came to another normal hotel in the midnight..
But payment was not return back
Horrible situation, hotel is durty and very poor.
The Hotel is cozy, not far away from the station and shuttle bus to airport, but if you have heavy luggage it would be difficult to reach the bus stop on foot. There are up and downs on the way there. So in my case I needed to call a taxi, which took me only 9 minutes to get to the airport. The staff is nice and helpful, friendly.

You're close to everything you need in this location (airport, train station, restaurants, shops, pubs, bakeries etc.) The park is very beautiful, and you can go on a short walk and see the churches and other buildings.
We booked the hotel less than an hour before arrival and they were very accommodating. Very clean and not too far off the freeway. We parked right in front (it’s only two hours parking during the day). My husband loved the bed. For one night, it was just right.
We were traveling to Bavaria which is south, so we rented a car at the airport. Due to the late arrival to Dortmund, it was a good chance to take a rest overnight and continue the trip in the morning.
The airport is 15 minutes walking distance.

The location is great for the airport.. You can get the shuttle bus from Holzwide Train station a 10min walk from hotel. A bonus is 5mins from hotel is Netto,Rossmans and a very tasty Kebab restaurant
check-in was very smooth. The hotel give me the room number and the access code before hand. Room is small but comfortable. its ideal if you have a small transit in Dortmund.
