Hotel Bären - the Alpine Herb Hotel, hotel in Stechelberg

Hotel Bären enjoys a quiet location in the car-free Wengen, just 350 metres from the Train Station, offering views of the Jungfrau Mountain and the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

The staff was extremly friendly. The woman that welcomed us (I presume she was the owner of the hotel) actualy gave us a larger room with mountain view free of additional charge. Me and my girlfriend are foodies, and we like fancy restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel was Michelin standard, for a reasonable price (Dinner costed around 150€ but it was worth of it). Very tasty and good portions.

We stayed in the chalet attached to Hotel Stechelberg, so...

We stayed in the chalet attached to Hotel Stechelberg, so big and comfortable. Photographs do not do it justice, such a beautiful place. Snow capped mountain all year round, surrounded by blue skies, mountains, green fields and wild flowers. Witnessed some of the farming activity in an UNESCO region - farmer moving his cows to higher grounds, well worth seeing. Hay making, cutting the meadows, baling, wrapping bales etc. We did one of the walks around the bottom of the mountain and went to Trummelbach-Falle. Rivers so clean, you can see the pebbles and stones. Really caters for all age groups. Public transport punctual.

This is a simple, renovated mountain house beyond stechelberg those looking to walk off the pavement. While the rooms aren’t sound proof it’s well built with non squeaky floors and wooden walls and ceilings. Beautifully clean in interiors and linens, pillows, blankets and comfy firm beds. I have allergies so I was very appreciative of how clean and fresh the rooms are. We really enjoyed our stay. Our hosts gave us good and clear info ahead and were good natured with all comers. We hope to visit again. Lovely stay and location.

The room is well located at the top of the valley and the second/third floors have a balcony so they have a wonderful view of the waterfalls and the landscape. The breakfast was very good with wide variety served in the hotel - comfortable seating and lovely friendly caring staff to serve ands assist with advice about the local area. Stunning location overall - at the top of the valley - a short walk in any direction has great views. A long walk and you are exploring new vistas and seeing new parts of the valley.

Hotel located in a very quiet position at the very end of the valley's road and surrounded by meadows and trees. From my room's window I could see one of those great waterfalls Lauterbrunnen valley is famous for. Room size and cleanliness were ok and common WC and shower also. Wi-FI connection was good. The hotel has a restaurant with a pleasant garden to dine outside and that's the only option to eat if you don't want to go to Lauterbrunnen (7 km away). The Postal Bus stop is just 50 metres from the hotel.

This place was a gem, away from the touristy side of lauterbrunnen it was right at the end of stechelberg and we had a view of the green hills and water falls around. The place was beautifully quiet and very old school like it has a basement kitchen and a dining room and even a lift for food. The place was very antiquey and had a very nice aura about it. We could also check in at anytime which was a bonus! Highly recommend staying here for some peace and quiet!

Family room with a balcony accessible from the hall was an excellent and unexpected benefit - overseeing the mountains and the waterfalls over the green trees - amazing with a glass of wine. All was excellent, staff friendly, breakfast, location, parking, etc. Lauterbrunnen can get crowded, at the end of the valley (here) is much better and a great place to start a hike further up pr easy walk down the valley. For families with kids - it's calm and peaceful.

Just perfect! It's an older building and looks like it, but very well kept, comfy and cozy. It's by no means a luxury hotel (shared bathrooms down the hall) but there's a serene and homey feeling about the place that puts you at ease. Large shared kitchen downstairs where you can make your coffee and meals. Gorgeous setting, surrounded by waterfalls and easy access to hiking trails. Staff incredibly friendly and kind. Appreciated the free parking.

This hotel is unique in its location. The view of the mountains, the sound of the rivers lulling you to sleep --what more do you want for a holiday? The restaurant has a most beautiful, traditional gravelled outdoor area. You can dine under chestnut trees, perfect to relax and feel lightyears away from the hot city Breakfast is rich with dark bread or white buns, müesli, yoghurt, eggs, ham, cheese, orange juice, etc., etc.

This place is for people who don't like to see other people :-). The chalet is located at the end of the road in Stechelberg, so you don't have much traffic. The hotel restaurant is about 50m from the chalet. The chalet itself has a terrace with unbeatable panoramic view of the mountains including Breithorn. This is an ideal place for relaxation or hiking or both. Highly recommended!

It was my fourth time at this place. I enjoyed every momemnt with my friends. We did a hike from Stechelberg “Winteregg loop” and had a Fondue for a dinner at The Alpenhof Mountain House (there is equipment for that). You just need to buy cheese. Diane is such a warm and friendly person. We felt like in a family. She took very good care of us. Until next time!

My friend and I really liked this place. The bus from Lauterbruen station takes you right down the valley to the hotel (last stop). It’s a cosy family run hotel that you feel at home in. Room was basic and comfy. Outstanding beauty surrounds this place so you are spoilt for choice on what to do. And it’s away from the tourist crowds.

The property is 5 mins walk from Stechelberg Post bus stop. The owners very helpful with any information we needed regarding our travel plans.
