Falling Leaves Lodge, hotel in San Ignacio

Situated in San Ignacio, 500 metres from Cahal Pech, Falling Leaves Lodge features accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a shared lounge.

The staff were very friendly & helpful. Paula organised a lift from the ferry at Belize City & one over the border to Tikal. We felt that all of the drivers were friendly, professional & responsible. We liked the room, the pool & the site next door, Cahal Pech. The weather wasn’t great so we did the chocolate workshop & the green Iguana tour, both good. Shame the caves weren’t open.

Pine Ridge Lodge, hotel in San Ignacio

Pine Ridge Lodge has a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and restaurant in San Ignacio. Featuring a bar, the property is located within 18 km of Barton Creek Cave.

The host was super kind and went above and beyond to accommodate me and my mother after we had a terrible experience at Kane Villas, which was overpriced and vacant with no host or hostess. I recommend staying at Pine Ridge Lodge over anywhere else in this area. The facility is super clean, off the grid, and the staff makes you feel comfortable and at home. You can't go wrong staying at Pine Ridge Lodge if you are ever in the mountains of San Ignacio, Belize! The creek behind the rooms is a pleasant sound to fall asleep and wake up to! :) Two thumbs up!!!!

    Nice small city- nice people.

Nice small city- nice people. Very close to Tikal in Guatemala- an excellent historic place to visit . We hired a cab for all 3 days. A bit pricey but was extremely convenient and the owner/driver was super nice.

Good place to base with lots of activities close by.

Good place to base with lots of activities close by. We didn't spend much time in the town itself as we stayed slightly out of town center so cannot comment on restaurants and such. Good street food. Good grocery shopping to stock up.

We spent 2 full days there.

We spent 2 full days there. The first day we went to the local Mayan ruins of Cahal Peche and Xanantunich and the second we went cave tubing with Bellizean Caving Expeditions. Both were amazing experiences. If we had an extra day we would have loved to see the Mayan city of Carocal which is further away from town.

If you're looking for quiet and remote, then this is your place. There isn't much to do here. Thank God for the Casinos. They gave me something other than staring at the hotel walls to do. Visiting the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, was great. But you definitely want to take the taxi from the ferry to the top of the hill, if you're not in good shape. Just a little way up the road is a restaurant named Sweet & Sour. The food was very good. I just wasn't feeling the cow foot soup. Lol. Although lots of advertisement says public transportation is available. However, unless you want to spend a small fortune, you absolutely need a car and a working cell phone for the GPS. The people in Belize were very helpful and friendly. It was great that most of them spoke English. This was a huge plus. The poverty here was heart breaking. I'm glad that I had an opportunity to visit. But I doubt that I will be going back any time soon.

The only thing that was horrific about this place was the hair braiding woman whose small shop is directly left from The Spot restaurant which is on the opposite side of the Venus hotel. The woman is violent. She gave us a big spill about how awful my daughters hair extensions were and that she would take it out and do it again. She said she would do it for 50USD. We accepted as she seemed like a nice lady but how wrong we were. She took the extensions out but then said she couldn’t remove the beads in my daughters hair and would need to leave them in. My daughter was horrified so I then had to bite every single one of them out myself. She then cut a three inch chunk of my daughters hair which is right on the crown. We told her we didn’t want her doing it and she bullied us to carry on. She then side platted my daughters natural hair and made a huge plaitted bump and then sowed the hair into the plait leaving a huge surplus of the hair extensions hanging. My daughter was so distraught and started crying and begged her to stop. She then took a 12 inch kitchen knife from her handbag and pepper spray on her key ring and said we must giver her the money. It was such a scary experience. Please please avoid this woman at all costs. We then complained to authorities whom explained she was mentally unstable. They wanted us to file a police report to have her arrested but we just wanted to leave the area.

    Easy to navigate on foot.

Easy to navigate on foot. The market is a must see for especially the food that is available throughout the day. Just like any other place, be careful at night time when walking downtown. We did feel very safe. Have bug repellents ready at night.

My stay at Yellow Belly was unexpected but great. I got stuck in a tropical storm when heading to Flores so ended up at Yellow Belly for two nights. While we weren't able to do anything because of the rain, everyone in the hostel stayed inside and played games together all day and night which was great. The staff at the hostel are super friendly and nice, and they put on good social activities. The free breakfast was probably the best I have had over three months of travel. Highly recommend.

it’s in the city center. the room was spacious and clean, with a nice private bathroom. the bed was good too and the airconditioning worked fine. but the best was the owner of the hostel! he helped us a lot, figuring out how to go to our next stop. we visited Xunantunich without a guide, and he told us to take photos so he could tell us everything about the architecture and history when we got back. super helpful and nice!

What a perfect stay. The staff are incredible, the place is amazing and we had everything we had such a lovely stay. Highlight was having a delicious (and copious) breakfast on our last day watching all of the animals coming to eat too. Including a coatimundi, hummingbirds, toucans, and many other amazing birds. The Pina colada la were also some of the best I've had !

We stayed in a king room which was really spacious and the bed was really comfy. The location is the best you could have, right on the main pedestrianised street so close to everything. The staff were also really friendly and helpful. Having a fridge was also really helpful.
