Wonderful location in the mountains. We loved that we could walk from the house for miles on a very small road. They stocked a refrigerator in a garden shed which was available to guests for a very small fee. Kitchen was small but very adequate. Would definitely recommend!

This town is a must visit for someone who is looking for something different. Eisriesenwelt is largest Ice Cave in the world and it is totally worth it, nice little adventure. There is also Hohenwerfen fortress next to the town, it was interesting to me as it was filming location of Where Eagles Dare, a great WWII themed film with Burton and Eastwood. But sadly it was not emphasised enough in castle itself. In any case great place to visit. I bet it is beautiful in winter too for the guys who like snow and skiing.

If you get a chance to stay here, do it! This place is a dream. The views alone are miraculous, with a view of the mountains and hills all around, and the castle in the middle of the valley. You can also see an adorable little town nestled up against the peaks. The apartment itself is fantastic, clean, completely updated and new, with beautiful rooms and a modern feel. The family is generous with their time and help, and the farm is full of animals: bunnies, kittens, chickens, goats, horses, etc. We visited with all the animals, but the girls especially loved the kittens! All they wanted to do was pet them. The farm is close to so many sites, with the castle right there, and Salzburg and Hallstatt only an hour away. We stayed three nights and were so sad to leave.
The view from the apartment was phenomenal! Not only a wonderful view of the nearby mountain peaks, but you could see Werfen castle from the bedroom windows as well. The setting was picturesque and wonderful. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. You do have to drive up onto the mountain side about 10 minutes--but that's part of what made it so fantastic. The accommodations had just what we needed and were spacious and clean. We have only positive things to say about our stay at Unterschwabeggof!
The host Kasper is generous, welcoming and kind. The room, although a bit small was nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Bed was comfortable and the whole atmosphere tranquil. The view to the castle was amazing. The breakfast was superb, great variety and quality non the less, one of the best we had during our vacation in Austria. Location was also good, we had a car and it was short drive to either the ice caves and the castle.
We would sure recommend this place, had a great time there.
The view from the hotel is outstanding - assuming that you are on the castle side (I really think it is worth paying extra for).
The breakfast was excellent both days, and the staff always friendly. A welcome drink is a nice touch.
The road to the hotel is a little twisty but no more than that. Plenty of places to eat a short drive away. Parking at the hotel is easy.
The room was cosy but big enough for the two of us and two large suitcases. Everything is in good order and very clean.
The hotel was close to the train station: 8-10 minutes walk.
The hotel was close to the Hohenwerfen Castle: 9-11 minutes walk to the bottom part.
I think I got the best room: on the 2nd floor with balcony, view at the mountains and the castle.
The staff were the owners themselves. (husband and wife). Super friendly, nice and flexible.

nice hotel very close to the castle, very friendly staff, good breakfast, very good restaurant, free parking and free WiFi. we stayed there for only 1 night on our journey and didn't use the spa facilities. I think this hotel is a great place to stay if you like hiking and want to explore the many options and hiking paths in the area. Also, you can walk to the fortress Hohenwerfen in about 15 minutes, which is great!

The view from the window is stunning. Great spot for nearby skiing with only 20mins to skiamade resorts. The house is full and well equipped. There is so much space that 9 people felt comfortable. The owner is super friendly. I strongly recommend this place.
And remember. It is next to the old church so be prepared for bells ringing at 6.00 am. :)
The property was close to castle and ice cave, there was plenty of parking, and breakfast was adequate. Also has elevator so that was appreciated. The proprietress was helpful with our reservation since we arrived one day early. It is a good value for 3 star hotel.
Great view of the castle and mountains behind it. We were both offered a complimentary drink when checking in, that was a very nice touch. View of the castle from the balcony was nice, too. Sounds of music film location was short 5 minute drive from the hotel.
This hotel has been one of our all time favorites. Set in a magical place on the way to the ice caves, and across from Schloss with a wonderful view of it. Breakfast was wonderful and definitely worth it. Cannot recommend this place enough
Our room, though tiny and up under the eaves, had a fantastic view of the castle across the valley and the hotel was located only a short drive from the ice caves which we had come to Werfen to see.
