- Everybody working there was really kind and ready to support us with any request.
- Food was excellent. The "grill-abend" was simply amazing.
- Hotel is equipped with everything needed for the families: Kinderwagen, Kindertrage Rucksack and most interesting (at least for us) E-Bikes that we used to have a tour all around (going even to the next village).
- Landscape is really nice. The sound of waterfalls and all the beautiful nature around, including the high peaks is relaxing and giving a feeling of peace.
- The possibility to have Kinderbetreuung half a day during the week is definitively good for both children and parents
- The Spielplatz especially, but the Kinderbereich as well, are great for kids and swimming pool is a good alternative when rainy is coming.

It is a small village with more or less any shops you need.
It is a small village with more or less any shops you need. There are many hiking paths to enjoy and because it is early in the season there are no crowds and bikes around. You have to check the little paths because sometimes the owner of the land just closes the path and you have to make a bigger round.
There are castle ruins to be visited, huts and beautiful forest paths with stunning views.

The town itself is tiny and there is nothing to do (although there is a supermarket, gas station and bakery). But the hiking possibilities are limitless, as are the excursions you can make in the Hohe Tauern area. We also found some nice restaurants in the area.
Hotel Bergbock is perfectly located to spend a few days exploring the Hohe Tauern area. I went to the Innergschlöß glacier, hiked around Virgen/Matrei and climbed the Berger Kogel mountain. All within 5 to 25 kms from the hotel. And after an exhausting day, I took a dive in the indoor swimming pool.
There is a little bar as well and room to chill outside in cosy chairs.
Breakfast was very good with a big variety of things to choose from.
Staff was very friendly and they make you feel at home.
We initially booked this place for summer 2020, but the COVID pandemic made it's own changes to our travel plans. Gästehaus Hanser allowed to cancel 2020 booking for free even the deadline was over.
Booked again for 2021 summer and didn't have to be disappointed. Lovely house, hospitable host and magnificent surroundings -- this is the real Austria as someone said.
The location is perfect, snow-capped mountains all around and spectacular views! The apartment was very big, huge, with many rooms and bathrooms. Very clean, the beds were very comfortable, I can't think of something negative to say. Simply because there are no negative comments to make regarding this place. I just wish we had checked in earlier.
The accommodation was great, mainly the following points:
- It is quite close to the ski lift in Matrei (approx. 10 minutes by car)
- The apartment is quite spacious
- The host was very nice
- There was no problem with parking
- They have a really cute and friendly cat :)
The apartments are spacious and clean, and the hosts are great. The town center is nearby, so you don’t need to travel far after dinner. Parking space is provided in front of the apartment.
Ingrid was an incredibly generous host and went above and beyond to make our stay in Virgen memorable. We will be staying here again on our next visit.
