Looking for a capsule hotel?

Developed in Japan, these cheap 'pod' hotels are a novelty for any traveller. With rows of small single bed enclosed capsules, accommodation is basic and intended to be overnight. There is separate storage for luggage and gender-separate communal bathrooms — some capsule hotels also have a sentō, a Japanese bath house, often for male guests only.

The hotel is well located especially if you are planning to visit the city. The area (Times Square is noisy) but the hotel windows are sound proof. The room I got was tiny but functional, the bed was comfortable, the desk was of good size. The bathroom has a great shower and is of good size (compared to other POD hotels in Manhattan). I enjoyed my stay.

Amazing location, stylish decor, comfortable beds, friendly staff (thanks for the cocktails Nataly, Phil and Jose!), excellent breakfasts. We knew a stay in NYC wasn’t going to be cheap - this is not a budget option - but perfect for experiencing life in the heart of the city. And the teenagers loved it!

Accommodation was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially on reception and the concierge who organised our shuttle to the airport which was cheaper than a taxi which only carried the two of us and dropped us at our next hotel by the airport. Breakfast was plentiful. Convenient location for walking into the centre.

Staff at the reception was friendly and at service. I don't understand where all the negative experiences from other reviews come from. Room is dated for sure, but hey, it's cheap. Don't expect anything above bare minimum. It's a budget option for those who cannot or don't want to spend more.

Shout out to the Pod 39 staff - very friendly and helpful. As for the hotel itself, its location near the Grand Central is very convenient (plus point the stop for the Newark airport buses) - so it was the right choice for someone who wanted to discover NY. The rooms were designed in such a way as to be comfortable and they were fully equipped. All in all - a very good experience - recommended.

Had gym and pool facilities. Shared facilities were cleaned often. There was a luggage minding facility for when you have a late flight. Location was convenient. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Vending machines had snacks and drinks at reasonable prices rooms had good air conditioning.

POD 39 was convenient, central and cosy. Centrally located to sites, restaurants and bars and if you have meetings at the UN it’s a short walk to/from. Despite their size, the single rooms are so comfortable and practical/functional as well. You’re not in New York to stay in bed all day, but to explore and so the rooms serve this purpose perfectly. The staff were also extremely helpful and friendly and made a huge difference as well.

Hotel was exceptionally clean, I think our room was cleaned daily. Beds and room size superb. Vending machines were not stupidly priced and well stocked. Staff were friendly and attentive, not over bearing. Location was ideal for exploring New York, close to the Subway and walking distance of most attractions. Excellent local Pizza and Japanese BBQ within 2 minutes. Will stay again with the family.
