I was coming from 7 days in a tent on the Fann mountains and I was looking a confortable place for one night. Well, I found much more....Sim sim Hostel and its family are the mirror of Tajik hospitality and friendship. For the details, comfortable bed, hot shower, large and clean spaces. I'm pretty sure this is the best hotel in town yet it feels very personal and welcoming. The rooms are comfortable with decent beds, kettle, basic toiletries etc and the a/c, wifi and ensuite bathrooms feel like luxury after you've returned from the homestays in the Fan Mountains. If, however, you were coming from a glitzy hotel in Samarkand, you'd likely find this place modest, there's no real decor in the bedrooms and the buffet breakfast is pretty so-so. All fair enough for the price though. Note that they take Visa but no other credit cards (you can pay in US$ cash though if no Somoni available). There's a cash machine in the lobby but again, that's Visa only (apparently true of most places in Tajikistan).

Before visiting Asham I thought I had problems with sleeping, but in this place you REALLY have a good rest. Gusar village is 25 min far from Penjikent by car (you can catch the one near the M.Bashoro mosque in Penjikent), the guesthouse is situated in the Asham store building. There is a local market, grocery stores and marshrutka stop near. My dormitory was very big and clean, bed was extra-comfortable, window view was the best ever (mountains). The shower is inside the dormitory, it s very convinient! Hot water 24/7, towels and slippers, kettle and cups are provided. Room was much better than photos on booking, so if you are looking for the comfort and calmness Asham is what you need. But be informed that on Saturdays and Sundays a noisy tajik weddings can be held in the building. Anyway it is a good opportunity to see tajik wedding)) It`s ok if you make photos and dance with guests))

It is a big wooden structure spreads on 2 floors about 7 km past the village of Artuch. There is a restaurant on site serving all meals and the manager can organize transfer to Pendjikent for 600 somonis. The main reason to stay though is its proximity to Kulikalon Lakes and Chubarak lake, great for hiking.
