This charming hotel is located in northern Guatemala’s Petén Jungle, on the shores of Lake Petén. It offers fantastic trips to the Mayan Ruins of the Tikal National Park.

Hotel Camino Real Tikal has an outdoor pool, hot tub and Temascal sauna. The restaurant serves local and international cuisine and has great lake views. There is also a poolside bar and a bar with a pool table.

I am unsure if it was because we had just spent two nights in the painful, sweltering heat of the jungle (45 degrees Celsius) with no air conditioning and anything with an air conditioner would have made us happy, but we loved this place the instant we arrived! We were welcomed by a delicious jamaica juice welcome drink and a very friendly lady at reception. We were surprised to learn that there was a complementary 1-hour boat ride on the lake every day at 16:45 and that the temazcal (sauna) was also included in the price of the accommodation. The property grounds included a wonderfully kept garden and open grass area by the lakeside as well as a forested area where we say monkeys, squirrels, hummingbirds, iguanas, etc. The gardener Martin was very friendly and saw that we were interested in seeing wildlife, so he pointed out the monkeys (called "bonitos") and told us the local names of the birds and even treated us to some fish seeding. It seems that the stale bread from the restaurant is used to feed the fish at the lake every morning. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of hungry fish gobbling up the bread that we threw into the lake, The room itself was heaven - a beautiful view from the balcony, air conditioning, and a lot of space. We were told at reception that internet was not available in the rooms, but we were surprised to find a network with a very strong, stable, and fast internet connection. This worked out perfectly for me as I was able to work comfortably inside the air conditioned room. There was a table provided in the room, which I turned into my desk. All but one person working at the hotel (a male at reception) were very friendly, from reception staff to restaurant staff, to the gardener. The food at the restaurant is pricey, but good. Note that there really isn't a choice nearby, so you are stuck with the hotel restaurant unless you have your own transport or would like to shell out money for tuk tuks.

A recently renovated apartment located in Flores, Casa Alemán features a garden. The air-conditioned accommodation is 35 km from Tikal National Park, and guests can benefit from complimentary WiFi and private parking available on site. The apartment features family rooms.

Casa aleman is an amazing place. The views from the terrace are breathtaking, especially during sunset. Even better than the place are the two hosts. Amazing is a word which doesnt describe the full extent of their beings. Whatever we needed, whichever wish we had, the fulfilled it even before we could say it out loud. They invited us for dinner and helped us widening our horizons and discuss about life in all its facets and entanglements. If we are in Guatemala again, our first destination is the Casa Aleman! The two of them know more about Tikal and Guatemala than any guide could have told us. Do me favor and visit casa aleman :) Thank you for everything, you made us feel like we are a part of your family.

It is very cheap, so some other things are not so important. The location is good, on the way to Tikal, not a lot of things to do, the lake is only good spot here. People are great and service is good.

Owner was exceptionally helpful. We didn’t have internet, stuck on a bus for 12hrs, arrived much later than we’re told. The town shuts down at 9pm, which we were not advised of previously. The owner was so helpful and understanding of us arriving late. He helped us organise a bus to visit Tikal for the next day. Our room was an excellent location and beautiful views. The room was very clean. Owner speaks very good English and is happily to help sort out any activities or provide advice on where to eat in the area.

Really liked the location, the staff, the food - everything really. Travelled by car (would highly recommend local Budget car hire for travel to Tikal) but a collectivo will drop you right outside Mon Ami (this collectivo is mostly morning or evening, and also picks up at the bus-stop just outside the airport; used it for return to Mon Ami after returning the car). Same collectivo drops off at the Ixlu junction for onward travel to Belize (very good collecivo service on that route).

The location is good, the food and the prices at the restaurant are decent, the room was big and the bed was comfortable. I also liked the fact that there were different light options and multiple power outlets. The owner was very nice and friendly. The lake area was great for a dip or to watch the sunset. It is easy and cheap to reach the hotel from Flores by collectivo.

The location is really beautiful! The room and garden our right next to the lake so you have a beautiful view, you can spot some birds, go for a swim,... . It is also closer to Tikal, more peaceful than Flores and you can walk around the lake to find some nice restaurants, kayaks,... . Also the cheap price is an advantage. The host is friendly and helpfull. Rooms are basic. We had 2 rooms, one with a double bed (this was oke) and one with a bunk bed (this bed was not stable at all).
