We had a great two-night stay here. Mike met us and welcomed us warmly. He's super-friendly ... I wish we had more time to chat with him! Omalos is a peaceful, sleepy town, and the houses are a a short drive away, making them even more peaceful. It's also a short drive to get to the trailhead for Samaria Gorge / Mount Gigilos. It's very rural here, making it very charming without a trace of touristiness. There were sheep flocks all around ... happy sounds of bells and bahs made it a magical stop on our vacation :-).

Beautiful setting, so peaceful and quiet. Amazing views and really friendly hosts. The houses are perfect for 4 (or 6) really clean and well equipped and the pool is wonderful.

Place is extraordinary, best locations for hiking Samaria or Giglios and e4. Very silent place with noone around.

It's a family-run hotel that caters to travellers wanting to hike Samaria Gorge (or do anything else in Omalos), with free transfers to the entrance of it. The coaches from Chania and elsewhere stop right outside this hotel (so long you tell the driver you're wanting to alight at Exari hotel). The hosts were such lovely and kind people, every single one of them - they make sure your stay is perfect - I mean which hosts gives you lifts, serves you wine, raki, desserts, fruits, etc. throughout your stay? The rooms were absolutely CLEAN and very affordable. It has a restaurant which serves the most delicious Cretan food - they have vineyards, plantations, and farms - so, you're getting farm-to-table food. You won't regret it!

The place is located right on the verge of samaria gorge entrance. Great location. Very clean. Each house has a litttle fireplace and some soffas and tea and coffee so we enjoyed our stay inn the cold evening before the trip

Reading some of the Google reviews made me a bit nervous about staying here - but really, some of you just need to get out more. At this price point, I challenge you to find a better budget stay anywhere on the island. We actually really liked the "hard" beds as described by a few others - the firm mattresses gave us the best night's sleep in ages, so I guess that's a matter of preference. There may have been one tiny mould stain on the shower tiles, but overall the room was spotless, perfectly spacious for two people, and opened onto an agricultural/mountain view and the tinkling of goat bells. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful, and he happily drove us to the Samaria Gorge starting point in the morning. In a nutshell, this ticks the boxes for a hiking base or overnight stop, and we'd use it again when in the area.

Stunning location, gorgeous view, friendly helpful hosts, what more can you ask for? The crisp air meant we all slept like babies during the night in the August heat wave, you're in the mountains after all, while everyone else is cooking by the beaches down below. We will definitely be back!
