Free WiFi is available throughout the property and 18th Century Swahili House Museum is 200 metres away. Incredible space with even better people. First, even before we arrived, communication with the host (Tarik) was impeccable. We always felt we were in good hands and that rang true from the moment we arrived especially with the housekeeper Farid who was absolutely excellent and was on top of every need we might have. I should take a moment also to say that the space itself is STUNNING. Absolutely gorgeous with many, many beautiful details. Truly a hidden gem of Lamu.

Shela
Set within 100 metres of Shela Beach and 100 metres of Manda Beach in Shela, Deuli House provides accommodation with seating area. This beachfront property offers access to a balcony. The apartment features family rooms. My first impression of Deuli House's wonderfulness was Chuie, the manager, who picked us up at the airport and provided us with useful information on Lamu City and Shela. The Deuli House itself is a spectacular example of Swahili-Arabic architecture, with a riyad-style central fountain in a light well extending 3 stories high. Beautifully handcrafted wood furniture decorate the living area. An antique dhow sail billows from the top of the light well to the ground floor exaggerating the building's height. The garden is large, and green with HUGE giant oyster shells where the turtles shelter from the sun. In addition to the breathtaking architecture, Chef Chengo and his assistant Michael, act like your personal chef and waiter. Peilo (sp?) the household help, created a beautiful bed of flowers as a welcome and keeps the accommodations spotless. The meals were amazing, the rooms are spacious, and the service, impeccable. The mosque is nearby, so we were shocked at 5am for prayers. It is located close to Peponi Hotel and magnificent soft sandy beaches which unfortunately we didn't have enough time to walk around. Also missed sailing at sunset in a dhow boat because of inclement weather...bummed...need to return.
Shela
Providing a fitness centre, a terrace and free WiFi, Shiban House is a recently renovated homestay 500 metres from Manda Beach and 200 metres from Mnarani House. The homestay features family rooms.
At the homestay, all units are equipped with a private bathroom.
The guest house was large with a couple different rooftop/balcony areas. Very clean. Room large. Changed out sheets every 2 nd day. Fans only no air con. Offer breakfast at small cost but kitchen area open to all with micro, stove and frig. Hard to find as Shela is all narrow alleyways. Joseph the houseman will organize pick up from the airport which is island across and porters for luggage and will meet you at the boat dock so set up transfer before arrival. Same cost as you would do on your own except maybe porter gratuity. Donkeys roam at will through the town so you really do not want to wheel luggage through the street. Joseph will go and pick up your bottled drinking water and fruits for you so just give him money. Wi fi was good but they do have power outages which is comman for the entire area/country. Quiet area.

The place in very nice and calm in a very central position in the village of Lamu. The room was big, cozy and clean. Great value for money!
Beautiful location in Shela village, stunning gardens around the hotel and a short walk to Shela Beach which goes on forever. The restaurant at Kijani is amazing, better than Peponi! Definitely have the Kijani Crab Curry!
Delicious home made breakfast from the in house bakery, a great team to look after you and a lovely airy place with lots of calm spaces to escape the heya and hustle of the village. I 100% recommend Jua House, especially for solo travelers and those wishing to avoid the hassle of renting a house.
All the staff are soo friendly and helpful🥰. Location is perfect,in Shella village where it is calm and quiet... and within walking distance from the jetty and places for quick bites...the place is clean with some of the best rooftop views in Shella Island🥰 You also get hot showers since the island can get a little cold sometimes. Accepts multiple payment options - card, cash, mpesa etc.
Very nice, affordable and well located house in Shela with the most amazing helpful staff, highly recommended! Breakfast was also very good and you have a nice view over the village from the comfortable lounge area at the rooftop. I would definitly stay there again.
The serenity and beauty of the resort is what blew us away and made our stay extra special. So many cozy nooks in the villas to relax in, take a photo, put your feet up or read a book. The suite we stayed in was so cozy and had in our view the best view on the island. The Majlis staff are extremely polite and hardworking. We were impressed and enjoyed having conversations with them from time to time.
