The hosts were the heart and soul of the property. I can't begin to tell you how fabulous this place is, especially if you are an antique and story collector like me. The hosts were just amazing and happy to indulge me in my questions and to show me hidden secrets in the house. The gardens are stunning with a plethora of fruit and vegetables with butterflies fluttering about. Just magical. I loved it. The design of the hotel was nothing short of spectacular. Each space had its own personality, elegance and timeless charm. From the richly patterned wallpapers to the carefully curated art pieces, every detail seemed to tell a story. Beyond the beauty, the hotel’s comfort was on par with its aesthetic. My room was HUGE, the bed like a canopied cloud, and the amenities top-notch. There was high-speed Wi-Fi and tea and home made cake served in the drawing room upon arrival.

Stunning property within easy walking distance of Old Town & the coast. Jam packed full of interesting items from around the world.
Vincent is THE host. Attentive, informative, friendly, knowledgeable and hugely French. You really couldn’t wish to meet a nicer man. Many thanks for the G&T on the front terrace when we arrived.
Beautiful room with a very comfortable bed and luxury toiletries. The Dyson Fan coming in handy with the weather being so warm.
We particularly liked the breakfast which is served at a communal dining table giving you ample chance to chat with fellow guests and swap tips on where to visit and what to see.

Cute little hut, great location to relax and have a couple of drinks around the fire pit. Had all the basics for us to cook dinner utensils wise, would have appreciated salt and pepper though! Good location for exploring Rye and surrounding area!

Friendly and welcoming. They happily accommodated my need for an early breakfast on the Sunday morning and the smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and avocado was outstanding!

The room was immaculate and Bev the host was amazing from the minute we arrived to when we left. Would highly recommend a stay here.
Staff went above & beyond; food was delicious & well-presented; room was spacious, comfortable & well-equipped (fresh milk & water in fridge); wonderful village location not far from the sea.
A lovely village pub valued by the local community. We were made very welcome. Our room was a good sized and had all the facilities we needed for a relaxing weekend. All the staff were friendly, courteous and provided efficient service. A particular shout out to the manager and the lovely lady serving at breakfast time. Good pub restaurant.
This is a lovely village pub. It is cosy inside and has a lovely outdoor area. It is in an ideal place for getting to the surrounding area. All the staff are really friendly and the food is amazing.
Accommodation is excellent. The hosts are really thoughtful and have provided all you need to ensure your stay is welcoming, comfortable and easy. There is really something special about The Retreat and not just the beautiful countryside, villages and coast location it is nestled in.
The breakfast was of a high standard the food was hot and cooked well. The staff were friendly and helped if you asked any questions. The food cooked at the pub is of a high standard compliments to the chef and when speaking to people on our travels around the other villages they all agreed the Two Sawyers is one of the nicest places in the area.
Breakfast amazing and all fresh local produce. Evening meals are also great and great value for money. If eating an evening definitely book a table as very popular for food and drinks. Outside seating is also very well kept . Lovely village and plenty of lovely walks in the area. Cant wait to go back
Lovely genuinely historic inn in a pretty garden setting. Staff team all welcoming, helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast and evening meal. Our room was clean and comfortable.
Location suited us perfectly - a nice village with easy access to beach walks, Rye, Battle, etc. Plus on site parking.
Location nice, situated in a quiet village. Building had history (old smugglers pub), wooden beams & low ceilings. Decor in keeping with pubs past but with the necessary ‘modern’ necessities. Dining area and bar had character. Food and beer etc. good
