The hosts were very helpful. Chris was very quick to respond and sorted all our hiking trips out for us. The shower always had hot water and the room was clean. I highly recommend this place for various reasons. It's conveniently located just blocks away from the city center, and just outside the hostel doors you will find loads of fresh fruits, vegetables, and many local shops! The rooms are very well priced and VERY well maintained, with hot showers, fresh linens, tv's, lots of space, private bathrooms, and they even clean your rooms EVERY day! Although I can attest to the above, what really sold me on this place was the hospitality that I received from Dante & Yovana. It's a family ran business that goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is fantastic. They serve breakfast, and continuously accommodated for me as I often left early to do some trekking. They were even kind enough to allow me to store my bags there during a 4 day trek (secured away) and have a later check out since I was taking a night bus back to Lima. If you're looking for a quiet and friendly place that feels very comfortable, I definitely recommend staying here at Hostal Universal! Continental and American breakfast options with local specialities, fruits and cheese are available daily at the bed and breakfast. There is a coffee shop on-site. The beds were amazing. Great night sleep. The woman who runs it is amazing. Breakfast is actually really good. Value for the price we paid was incredible.

Overlooking the mountain, units in this guest house are accessible via private entrance and fitted with a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with a shower and free toiletries. At the guest house, all units include bed linen and towels. Melissa and her husband were wonderful hosts, welcoming us onto their property with a tour of the grazing lands behind the hotel, introducing us to all their animals (friendly dogs, llamas, sheep, cattle, chickens, rabbits), and conversing with us throughout the evening. They gave us advice on our trip through Peru and seemed genuinely interested in our travels. The place is beautiful, peaceful, and secluded. They cooked dinner (15 soles, I think) and breakfast for us (2-3 soles pp) and both were delicious with farm fresh eggs.

The staff were very welcoming and hospitable, always ready to help- they even clean our room while we were away.
