We had a lovely stay in the Rock retreat. It was very clean and beautifully presented. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a decent meal.
We had plenty of firewood to keep warm on a very cold weekend. The bed was super comfy. Overall a great weekend to shut off from technology and enjoy the mountains

The first thing you notice is the scenery - a lovely short drive from Waitomo Caves, the little forest that the driveway winds through (where we think we spotted a kea), to the stunning view from the cabin itself, and the lookout slightly further up the hill. The warm welcome from the host (and the dogs). The cows, including 2 calves, were brought down to the yard in front of the cabin and guests could hand feed with hay. The cosy cabin itself with big windows to enjoy the view and the ethanol fire to keep you toasty on a chilly night. Various cereals, milk, yoghurt, bread etc provided for breakfast. The sound of the rain on the roof at night.

Loved the extra thoughtful touches such as breakfast options and having a washing machine to wash our clothes. The hosts communicated clearly and we met a little lamb and saw some cute calves. The fish and chips in the local town were very acceptable. We had access to Netflix. The bed and sofa bed were both comfortable.

Excellent accomodation. The room is comfortable and bright, and the care and attention in arranging the room was obvious. Several breakfast options are placed in the room, along with a mini fridge containing yogurt and pitchers of milk and juice. the location itself is stunning, with beautiful views and an exceptional opportunity to see the night sky without intense light pollution.

A great location, friendly welcome and an excellent breakfast. The caves were only a 10.minute walk away. A very quiet location, conducive to a good night's sleep!
We stayed in the chalet. A beautiful quirky wooden hut with an absolutely gorgeous view over the valley. It was very quiet and private with cows chatting to each other occasionally.
We loved the location so quiet and relaxing. The lovely couple who run it are so friendly and gave us some great advice about what to do around the area and dinner options all fantastic choices.
The chalets are very private and cosy and ours being upstairs had a beautiful balcony with view
Absolutely loved our stay just wish we could of stayed longer. Would definitely recommend staying here for a lovely weekend away or passing through. It felt very personal not like a hotel chain with no personality.
