We had a long drive south from Scotland and decided to interrupt our journey and stay at the String of Horses. The hotel has an old fashioned, cosy atmosphere. We had an excellent dinner in the hotel restaurant. Staff all super friendly and competent. Choice of breakfast also good.

The host was very welcoming and friendly. The room was really comfortable, with a couple of chairs to sit and have a cup of tea and chat and a super-comfy bed. Really nice cooked breakfast.

Lovely character farmhouse with large, comfortable double room. Anne was the perfect host making us feel most welcome.
For travellers who enjoy beauty in the simple things, a bed and breakfast (B&B) is the perfect place for a getaway. Hosts welcome guests into their homes and provide a private room and complimentary breakfast. Bathrooms may be shared by other guests, and there is often shared space with the host.
Fantastic location, very quiet and peaceful. Large bedroom with a shower and bath en-suite. Largest en-suite we have ever seen. An excellent breakfast and Deborah was the perfect host. A lovely view from our window with a small river and woodland beyond. Deborah was kind and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us have a great stay. Very clean and tidy. Would recommend Lanercost Country Bed and Breakfast to anyone.
A two night stop on our way to Scotland with dog and ideal for our purposes. A charming and comfortable cottage in a quiet picturesque village. Unfortunately couldn’t visit the adjoining pub and there on a Monday and Tuesday, will get the nights right next time!
Lovely quiet location in the countryside with great hosts and the extended family of Horses, dogs, a cat and of course the chickens.
Easy base to get to both the north pennines and the Lakes. Parking discs were great to have for the Cumbria area and Talkin Tarn.
The house was very spacious, with large rooms all done to a high standard and of course the great views from the sitting room and front bedrooms day and night, with the most beautiful sunsets.
Would definitely stay again.
Beautiful traditional farmhouse in a very quiet location. Perfect for relaxing. We could stroll to the local pub for supper and good beer. Excellent breakfast and very welcoming, friendly hosts. Thank you, we would love to come back and stay a while longer next time.
Great location, welcoming, rooms were spotless, cozy and quiet. Meal in the evening was amazing, great atmosphere in the bar, staff helpful and polite, a perfect way to end a long days hike.
A great location with good facilities nearby but only a very small breakfast bar seating two tightly, was too small for a couple and a child or even a couple in our opiinion. This is a B and B without the breakfast though you can pay for a nice one next door at the owners business!
The bed bit was very clean and comfortable.
The warm welcome from Sheila and Brian, and the excellent breakfast they provided, together with the comfortable and quiet atmosphere in their delightful farmhouse, were deeply appreciated.
Couldnt recommend more - great location close to Hadrians wall and the lakes, in a quiet part of the country. Great hosts - very friendly and accommodating, great breakfast. Guest lounge and coffee making facilities. Wouldnt hesitate to return if in the area.
