Zanziblue, hotel in Matemwe

Boasting a private beach area and sea views, Zanziblue in Matemwe provides accommodation, water sports facilities, an outdoor swimming pool, barbecue facilities and a garden. Free WiFi is provided.

What a fantastic place! Zanziblue was the most underrated spot we visited in Zanzibar. We stayed at four different hotels in the same or higher price range, one of which was about twice the cost and less than 10 minutes away by car. Still, Zanziblue was definitely the perfect choice for us, especially when it came to high-quality food. As a VEGAN, I was impressed that the kitchen could create vegan options comparable to those in high-quality Western restaurants. This is significant, considering the challenges and limitations on the island. Big kudos to the Swedish chef and co-owner, who truly succeeded in crafting this experience. The highlight was definitely the vegan cheese made from cashew nuts. The menu is primarily non-vegan, I'm confident that non-vegan guests would also be impressed. It was the small details that made us feel so welcomed. The staff respected us, and the hotel management clearly understands how to run a place like this by leading their local team by example. The service was exceptional. They not only listened to their guests but went above and beyond. For instance, they surprised us with a celebration for an unannounced birthday. Another highlight was the beach tour offered with local guides from the village. We were finally able to connect with locals on a personal level, without feeling pressured to buy anything, allowing us to explore the region sustainably and learn about local life. All in all, I wish we had discovered this place earlier so we could have stayed a longer period of time.

Marafiki Beach Hotel & SPA, hotel in Matemwe

Located on Matemwe Beach, Marafiki Beach Hotel & SPA offers accommodation with a bar, a swimming pool, a garden and a 24-hour front desk for your convenience.

The hotel is located right at the beach and it’s very quite and calm around there. The in- and exterior is warmly decorated and has a lot of charm to it. We loved the great service, the food and the little activities (e.g. cooking class, village walk, live music sunset) offered by the staff without extra charge.

La Villa de Victor Kigomani, hotel in Matemwe

Offering an outdoor pool and views of the sea, La Villa de Victor Kigomani is located in Kigomani in the Zanzibar North East Region, 56 km from Zanzibar City. Nungwi is 23 km from the property.

I do not know where to begin. The Villa is amazing. It is very clean, quiet, luxurious and private. The host, Neema, is wonderful, she is super friendly, has been phenomenal from start to finish and welcoming and so have the other staff. There are a few restaurants on the beach in a walking distance, however be very careful (we learnt this lesson the hard way), but the food cooked by the chefs in the Villa is outstanding quality, so we highly recommend to try it. We stayed here for two weeks and it was the most memorable experience; the views are breathtaking from sunrise to sunset. We would also like to thank Paulette and her whole family, they made us feel very welcomed, we celebrated special occasions together as well as she helped us when we were most in need! You will not get this type of service anywhere else.

Mambo Paradise, hotel in Matemwe

Facing the beachfront, Mambo Paradise offers 4-star accommodation in Matemwe and features an outdoor swimming pool, garden and terrace.

My wife and I stayed there for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon trip across Zanzibar and we loved staying in Mambo Paradise. The hotel is located in a small fishing village and you can watch the fisherman bring their catches to the shore and experience the everyday life of the locals. The hotel sourced seafood from the nearby local fish market, which meant delicious meals every day! The staff were extremely lovely and helpful, we even got fresh coconuts from the tree gathered just for us :) If you're looking to visit Mnemba for snorkeling, speak to the staff and they will arrange a group or a private tour for you, we loved it. The owners were welcoming and offered advice on other activities.

Zanzibar Magic Boutique hotel was the perfect stop on our honeymoon to Zanzibar. The staff were so friendly, the food amazing and the location was right on the beachfront. Matemwe beach is quieter than Nungwi or kendwa but the sea was lovely to swim in.

The hotel and the rooms are very nice and cozy! The staff was wonderful and very helpful. Massage was 100% amazing! Its a picturesque small hotel with a sense of ease and great style. Very nice pool area! Clean rooms and all areas were kept very cleen. Small private beach. When the tide is high you have the ocean really close to your sunbed and its beautiful. You wont get sunsets at this part of the island, go on a private boat tour with the boys on the beach (much cheaper and the price is 90% lower)!
