The property is situated close to local distilleries of Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg and also to the local RSPB Reserve and American Memorial Monument both in the Mull of Oa. Port Ellen is surrounded by beaches and has a working harbour which accommodates ferries, cruise ships, local fishing boats and also a yachting marina.

Everything was perfect! Niall&Linda are the best hosts. They were very kind and helpful. The rooms are super clean and comfortable, and Niall makes the most amazing breakfast. His Laphroaig waffles are incredible! Thank you again for the fantastic stay! :)

On Islay’s famous Whisky Coast, in the fishing village of Port Ellen, overlooking the harbour and marina and just 2 hours by ferry from Kennacraig on the Scottish mainland, The Islay Hotel offers a restaurant and well-stocked whisky bar. Guests can enjoy the unspoilt Scottish coastline and beaches, from 2 minutes' walk away.

The whole experience was great. The tour organised for us by the manager was excellent. We had an interesting insight into the history etc of Islay.

The Islay Hotel is a great location for shops, eating out, distilleries and beaches. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Our room was spotlessly clean and well organized. The breakfast was a very good start to our day. In addition to the hotel, we recommend the café at Ardbeg distillery for lunches and teas. On the road to Bowmore (on the right-hand side) is the Balaclava Byre Farm Shop and Restaurant, which also provides delicious food, using local produce from Islay.

The setting is beautiful. You can walk through the golf course to the beach and it's like having your own private beach. The rooms are comfortable and clean (not luxurious but cozy). I don't think any hotels on the island are that fancy so this is definitely one of the nicer and more spacious ones (rooms are not huge but at least they aren't tiny). The food at the restaurant was pretty good too which is convenient. Staff and people on the island were extremely nice.

Nigel, Moira,.Jane and the team at The Islay Hotel are truly great hosts. Professional, friendly, and over and beyond helpful. I highly recommend the daily specials at the restaurant. The freshest ingredients, beautifully prepared. A great location sitting on the beach of Port Ellen and a 20-minute stroll to Laphroaig and other distilleries nearby. Many thanks for your warm and forever memorable hospitality Ilay. I'll be back soonest.

The location is superb, wonderful views and walks along the vast beach. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with a fantastic bathroom. The room was a tad small and we had to keep our cases in the middle of the room but we had a great view across the golf course to the sea with stunning sunsets.

We stayed on the ground floor, amazing location in Port Ellen, 2 mins from shop, pubs, ferry and beach is opposite. Basic accommodation however had everything we needed comfy twin beds, table and chairs, TV, kettle, plates, cutlery and small fridge which was amazing! Hosts very lovely , friendly and accommodating. We will definitely stay here again. Perfect location for staying on Islay with 3 distilleries within 4 miles.

Good big open rooms. The lounge area offers amazing views over the golf course and landscape surrounding. Bar and restaurant offer a wide ranging menu and good breakfasts. This is the perfect location from which to explore magical Islay. If golf’s not your thing there’s a beautiful big white sand beach behind, offering great scenery and sunsets.
